In this edition, the SONIC CUP will broaden its outreach from last year's limited competition in Tokyo and Osaka to an extensive six-region structure that includes Hokkaido, Tohoku, Chubu, Kanto, Kinki, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu/Okinawa. The qualifiers will be held as SNS (Social Networking Service) competitions, divided into Eastern and Western Japan regions.
From September 14 to September 27, 2026, skaters from Eastern Japan will submit their performance videos via Instagram, focusing on three key evaluation criteria: difficulty, completion, and style of tricks. The Western Japan qualifiers will take place shortly after, from September 29 to October 12, 2026. A total of 48 selected skaters from these regions will advance to the thrilling Tokyo Finals.
Highlights of the Tokyo Finals
The Tokyo Finals event on December 13, 2026, will feature intense matches with the top 48 competitors showcasing their skills from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM. After preliminary rounds, professional riders will dazzle the audience with a demonstration ride, followed by the highly anticipated final showdown at 5 PM. The award ceremony will conclude the event at 5:45 PM, where the top three winners and one special recipient of the SONIC Award will earn an incredible 5-night, 7-day skateboarding training tour in Los Angeles, the birthplace of skateboarding.
