Fujiki and Tani Call for Participation in Upcoming Election
In a recent press conference held to promote early voting for the
51st House of Representatives Election scheduled on
February 8, 2026, popular actor
Naohito Fujiki and model and talent
Maria Tani gathered to encourage voters and raise awareness about the importance of early voting. The event was organized by the
Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications to enhance voter participation.
Fujiki opened the conference by expressing his surprise and honor at being selected as an election promotion character. He remarked, "It was unexpected and I am really honored to take on such a significant role. I've received a lot of feedback about it, including from my father who said, 'I’m so proud!' I was quite surprised, even at the age of 53, to receive praise from my parent! There's quite an age gap between me and Maria, who was born the same year I debuted, but I feel motivated to do my best as a fellow Waseda University alumnus." This light-hearted atmosphere set the tone for the press conference.
Tani also expressed her surprise, stating, "I was genuinely astonished, and I feel extremely honored. My family is thrilled and they even mentioned wanting a copy of this poster. Being alongside Fujiki-san, a senior from the same university, makes me feel a strong connection and also reassured. I aim to convey to the younger generation how important it is to vote and familiarize them with the convenient option of early voting."
The pair discussed the catchphrase, "A vote full of hope for our tomorrow." Fujiki emphasized its significance saying, "With the circumstances shifting so rapidly, this election feels particularly important. As a parent, I have been reflecting on what kind of Japan we can hand over to the next generation and the importance of voting has resonated with me."
Tani added, "Hearing this message made me realize that we have the power to change our tomorrow. Understanding that my vote carries weight instills a sense of responsibility, which I think is a beautiful message."
Both stars shared their personal voting plans. Fujiki shared, "I plan to vote on the election day itself, but since my shooting schedule is yet to be determined, I might use early voting if necessary. I appreciate that I can vote without a voting ticket through identity verification. It's very convenient to have this option during my free time." Tani affirmed, "I will likely use the early voting option. Given that it’s a winter election, weather could affect turnout, so having the flexibility of early voting is very valuable."
In conclusion, Fujiki stated, "I’ve been calling on my social media every day since the announcement of the election date, reminding everyone, 'Only so many days until voting day!' I hope we can boost turnout in this election where we’re representing the campaign. For those unable to vote on the 8th, I encourage you to take advantage of early voting to contribute to shaping the future of Japan together!" Tani urged the younger demographic, saying, "I believe many young people aren’t uninterested in elections; they just don’t know what to do or feel insecurity about voting alone. I remember being nervous when I voted for the first time, but the staff are kind and help guide you. There are also instructional videos available online about the voting process, so I encourage everyone to explore those resources and feel comfortable visiting the polling stations. There’s still time to consider where to vote, so please utilize your precious vote to participate in changing our tomorrow!"
