Thunes Expands Its Direct Global Network to Scandinavia

On June 3, 2025, the innovative payment platform, Thunes, announced a major milestone with the expansion of its Direct Global Network into the Nordic region, specifically targeting Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. This enhancement aims to streamline cross-border payments by allowing members of the Thunes network to send money directly to bank accounts in these countries, bypassing traditional financial rails.

With the opening of new payment corridors, users can now perform transactions in Danish Kroner (DKK), Norwegian Krone (NOK), and Swedish Krona (SEK). The Nordic region is a vital market, evidenced by its export volumes exceeding $600 billion in 2024, alongside a notable influx of over $5.4 billion in remittances detected in 2023 as reported by the World Bank. This expansion positions Thunes strategically within a dynamic market ripe for innovation in financial services.

Thunes’ robust API integration leverages its SmartX Treasury system in conjunction with Fortress Compliance, creating an ecosystem that enhances transaction speed, control, visibility, security, and cost-effectiveness. Aik Boon Tan, Head of Network at Thunes, remarked, "This expansion is a significant step forward for both Thunes and its members, highlighting our commitment to delivering real-time, transparent, and reliable cross-border payments on a global scale. By extending our Direct Global Network to the Nordic countries, we provide a modern alternative to existing systems, ensuring that payments headed to Denmark, Norway, and Sweden are executed with the highest levels of speed and operational efficiency."

Chloé Mayenobe, President and COO of Thunes, also expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "The launch of direct bank payment capabilities in the Nordic countries broadens the reach of our exclusive network and delivers unparalleled value to all our members. By establishing real-time payment corridors in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, we empower businesses and individuals to transact more quickly, transparently, and efficiently. This expansion is a strategic milestone in our journey toward connecting every corner of the globe and reinforces our promise to provide cutting-edge, reliable payment solutions."

This recent addition to the Thunes network reaffirms its commitment to accommodate the rising demand for real-time cross-border payment solutions in a fast-evolving region. Thunes’ Direct Global Network allows users to process real-time payments in over 130 countries with a reach encompassing more than seven billion mobile wallets and bank accounts worldwide, as well as access to fifteen billion cards through over 320 different payment methods including GCash, M-Pesa, and WeChat Pay.

Having established itself as a leading player in the global payments landscape, Thunes is driven by a mission to make money flow seamlessly across borders. The company's headquarters is located in Singapore, with a presence in thirteen key cities worldwide, including Barcelona, Beijing, Dubai, and San Francisco. This expansion represents not just a geographical extension but also a significant enhancement to the service offering, setting the stage for growth and innovation in the payment processing arena.
