NYC Math Day Launches in New York City

On June 6, 2026, the Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) and Brookfield Place will join forces to host the inaugural NYC Math Day, an event dedicated to acknowledging the achievements of young mathematicians throughout the city. This exciting celebration is not just a competition; it is a vibrant community festival filled with engaging math activities aimed at fostering a love for mathematics across all ages.

Event Highlights

The NYC Math Day will feature a variety of fun and interactive events designed to captivate both students and their families. Attendees can expect:
  • - Math Scavenger Hunt: A mall-wide adventure to discover mathematics in real-world scenarios.
  • - Math Battle: An entertaining competition that puts RSM students against their parents in various mathematical challenges.
  • - Math Enthusiasts Parade: A parade to showcase the excitement and creativity surrounding math.

In addition to these activities, the day will culminate in an Awards Ceremony, where over 800 RSM students, including nearly 500 high achievers, will be acknowledged for their remarkable performances in prestigious competitions like AMC, AIME, MOEMS, and IMC. Maria Gofshteyn, RSM’s NY Regional Director, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Mathematics is a powerful tool that develops both mind and character, equipping students with skills they will carry with them for life.”

The intention behind NYC Math Day is not only to honor these young mathematicians but also to inspire more children across New York City to explore and appreciate the beauty of mathematics.

Community Engagement

Brookfield Place will act as the main venue for this event, representing a collaboration that emphasizes the importance of education and community involvement. The venue is a well-known space that offers cultural experiences, dining, and shopping—making it an ideal setting for this celebration.

Supporting partners include the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) and the Department of Mathematics at Columbia University, which reinforces the event's academic significance.

The RSM has been serving the New York City area for over two decades, offering a distinctive after-school math enrichment program. With a curriculum that spans from kindergarten to 12th grade, RSM is recognized as one of the top educational institutions, providing a nurturing environment for budding mathematicians to thrive with assistance from skilled teachers and a collaborative peer community.
