It features a rich and layered flavor profile derived from a meticulous blend of over 100 malt and grain whiskies, primarily sourced from Nikka's Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries. This complexity stems from the innovative ‘marriage’ process employed by master blenders.

The idea originated from Takeshi Taketsuru, the nephew and adopted son of Nikka Whisky's founder, Masataka Taketsuru. Takeshi’s vision was to recreate the deep, flavorful essence of whisky that can only be achieved through the meticulous blending process that takes place directly 'from the barrels.' Following numerous experiments, master blender Shigeo Sato and his talented team created a liquid that showcased a perfect balance of intensity and mellowness.
