The Unstoppable Trend of Decarbonization: Achieving CO2 Reduction Goals for Two Consecutive Years

The Unstoppable Trend of Decarbonization

In today's world, the movement towards decarbonization is gaining unprecedented momentum. This is exemplified by Satisfactory Inc.’s "CO2 Reduction Project," launched in 2020. The initiative aims to repurpose plastic waste into usable resources while striving to reduce carbon emissions significantly. As of 2024, the project has successfully reduced CO2 emissions by 7,107 tons, achieving its annual target for the second consecutive year. A heartfelt thank you goes to the 4,873 participating businesses that made this achievement possible.

Overview of the CO2 Reduction Project

Initiated in 2022, the CO2 Reduction Project focuses on reevaluating resource use to cut down CO2 emissions by 5,000 tons annually. Companies involved in the project contribute by providing waste plastics, which are then transformed into recycled products. These actions help mitigate the CO2 emissions resultant from waste incineration, a benefit that Satisfactory compiles and reports on each year.

Achievements: Cutting 7,107 Tons of CO2 in Fiscal Year 2024

During the fiscal year from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025, the project successfully reduced a total of 7,101 tons of CO2 emissions. Since the inception of its recycling product business in May 2020, the cumulative CO2 reduction has reached an impressive 23,523 tons, benefiting 4,873 businesses. The project’s expansion can be attributed to the successful transformation of challenging plastic waste into practical products needed by various stakeholders, which in turn allows stakeholders to appreciate the tangible benefits expressed through CO2 reduction numbers.

Emerging Patterns

Growing Support from the Aviation Sector

This year, there has been notable support from the aviation sector, in addition to feedback traditionally coming from manufacturing and financial industries. The aviation industry is accelerating its decarbonization initiatives and is reassessing its resource consumption. Disposal of waste generated from air freight has been a significant contributor to CO2 emissions, often leading to incineration. Airlines are now recognizing the need for proper waste segregation and recycling to quantitatively showcase their improvements in environmental impact.

The Demand for Recycled Materials in Sports Events

Moreover, there is a rising awareness surrounding sports events, which inherently involve large gatherings, consumption, and mobility. Managing waste effectively during these events is a persistent urban and venue-related challenge. Environmentally friendly event planning is already gaining traction, with organizers striving to enhance waste visibility and pursue recycling. Through consultations with various stakeholders nationwide, the initiative’s significance in managing unavoidable consumables is broadening.

Future Outlook: Creating a Flow of Change

Satisfactory is committed to continuously providing a resource recycling framework that is accessible to businesses of all sizes, broadening the circle of decarbonization efforts. This movement is steadily developing across Japan and is now unstoppable. Our mission is to refine existing methods while branching out into new approaches, ultimately fostering a society where choices conducive to decarbonization are naturally integrated into everyday practices.
