Unveiling the Future of Branded Movies: A Special Event in Tokyo

On September 30, 2023, a significant event took place at Akasaka Intercity AIR in Tokyo, celebrating the launch of 'THINK by BRANDED', an innovative workshop series aimed at empowering companies and local governments with essential skills and insights into creating branded movies. This initiative is launched by Nittetsu Kowa Real Estate Co., Ltd. to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 'BRANDED SHORTS' festival, a distinguished platform exhibiting branded films which balance audience engagement and corporate messaging.

The ceremony featured prominent figures in the film and media industry, including Tetsuya Bessho, representative of SSFF & ASIA, and special guest and producer Kuni Yamahasen from PIVOT Company, who has made a name for himself in the media business by emphasizing the importance of communication. Accompanying them was Ichiro Takashima, a member of Nittetsu Kowa's Area Management Department, who shared insights into the project’s goals and the captivating potential of branded films.

Ichiro Takashima expressed, "Our goal to continually think reflects in our company’s branding philosophy. Through our branded movie 'I THINK', we aspire to explore how we can craft narratives that communicate corporate messages effectively, engaging with workshop participants in meaningful discussions." Kuni Yamahasen added, "The beauty of branded films lies in their depth of information and the profound emotions they convey. Unlike traditional advertising that alienates users, branded movies resonate strongly with audiences by effectively delivering messages." Tetsuya Bessho reiterated the goal of cultivating a community of collaborative thinkers, emphasizing a shared journey towards understanding branded filmmaking.

The 'THINK by BRANDED' project consists of a series of five seminars laid out as follows:
1. First Seminar: Scheduled for October 22, 2023, within the SSFF & ASIA 2025, focusing on the intersection of advertising and cinematic storytelling.
2. Second Seminar: Planned for December, concentrating on identifying the 'seeds of stories' inherent in brands and services.
3. Third Seminar: Expected in February 2026, discussing the translation of corporate objectives into visual narratives.
4. Fourth Seminar: Set for April 2026, aimed at publicizing and deploying branded films effectively.
5. Fifth Seminar: Concluding in June 2026, culminating in the crafting of a comprehensive proposal for a branding movie.

Bessho’s call-to-action encouraged attendance across all five sessions, stating, "Through this series, we aim to cultivate new project ideas that would ultimately lead to the creation of impactful branded films capable of stirring global hearts." As the SSFF & ASIA 2025 approaches, Bessho also unveiled plans for a special talk event focused on new branded film production methodologies, emphasizing the exciting possibilities rooted in corporate and local community collaboration.

The event culminated with a screening of notable branded films that illustrate current trends, showcasing works including a film by a UK clothing detergent brand, a production from a Canadian stationery store, and Nittetsu Kowa's own 'I THINK'. Feedback highlighted the warmth and relatability of 'I THINK', as it poignantly depicted the journey of understanding societal needs through a community-building project, resonating deeply with its viewers.

SSFF & ASIA 2025 Overview: Set to unfold from October 22, showcasing short films across various locations in Tokyo, offering free admission to numerous events and screening opportunities, while fostering discussion on the emerging landscape of branded storytelling and its implications for businesses and communities alike.

As the festival draws near, a heightened anticipation surrounds the exploration of branded films that bridge local narratives with corporate messages, promising to leverage creativity and collaboration for impactful storytelling.
