Kanda Myojin Illuminated: A Cultural Extravaganza
The Kanda Myojin Shrine will host a spectacular event titled "Kanda Myojin Illuminated: A Fusion of Light and Japanese Culture" from November 20 to November 24, 2023. Organized by the Chiyoda Central Cultural Exchange Promotion Association, this event aims to revitalize the local community by attracting visitors through cultural and artistic experiences.
Event Background
The event is backed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Tourism Foundation, utilizing the Nighttime Tourism Promotion Grant. By offering visitors the chance to engage with traditional Japanese culture amidst the beautiful nighttime scenery of Kanda Myojin, the event significantly contributes to enhancing the region's appeal.

Daily Cultural Experiences
During the event, each day will feature unique performances and experiences:
November 20
- - 17:30-18:00: Enjoy the traditional sounds of Gagaku, Japan's oldest music, performed by shrine priests.
- - 18:30-20:30: Witness a Kyogen performance by renowned actors Kenta Okutsu and Kenichiro Okutsu, showcasing humor through intricate gestures and dialogue, along with explanations of this comedic theatre form.
November 21
- - 18:30-20:30: Try your hand at Kenjutsu (swordsmanship) with North Star Ittō-ryū, a school that blossomed during Japan's tumultuous Bakumatsu era. Attendees will be treated to a sword performance and can participate in a trial cutting session on a first-come-first-served basis.
November 22-24
- - 18:30-20:30: A tea ceremony experience will be hosted by Mayuko Mizukami of the Omotesenke School, providing a serene space enriched with the art of matcha tea preparation, set against the enchanting backdrop of illuminated scenery.
Note: Events in the light stage area may be canceled in case of rain.
Photography and Exploration
For a more enjoyable visit, guests can utilize a digital map, "Digital Map supported by Platinumaps," featuring picturesque spots around Kanda Myojin and the surrounding area, perfect for capturing memorable photos.
In conjunction with the light festival, a stamp rally will be held. Participants can collect stamps from five designated photo spots and receive a special prize from the Kanda Myojin EDOCCO Club, including a chance to earn the “100 Myri” reward.

Special Exhibition: The Great Armor Exhibition
Running concurrently will be the "Great Armor Exhibition: Tsunagu - Wearing the Spirits of Tradition," presented by Marutake Armor Studio, showcasing over 30 historical armors used in films and museums, marking its first return to Tokyo in 15 years. Admission is free, and visitors can also purchase food and merchandise.
