Discovering the Unseen Cultural Connection Through Ikebana and Convenience Stores

Exhibition: 'I Love Convenience Store Chocolate'

Running from November 14 to December 6, 2025, the 'I Love Convenience Store Chocolate' exhibition showcases the innovative works of contemporary Ikebana artist Ayaho Osono. Organized by SIGNING at their social issue gallery, SIGNAL, this exhibition aims to explore the fusion of everyday convenience stores with traditional Japanese Ikebana art.

About the Exhibition

In our fast-paced world, where convenience often takes precedence, this exhibition seeks to bridge the gap between the mundane and the profound. Ayaho Osono’s works serve as a thought-provoking inquiry into the essence of culture and its relevance in today's society. She reflects on how Japanese culture can provide insightful guidance amidst the chaos and uncertainty of modern life.

Osano emphasizes the need for a renewed awareness of Japanese heritage, especially in an age where many feel distanced from their cultural roots. The blending of convenience store aesthetics—representing modern pop culture—with the refined craft of Ikebana represents her vision of creating new, inclusive values that celebrate both elements. Through her art, Osano aims for visitors to gain a fresh perspective on the beauty of Ikebana while recognizing its potential as a way to address contemporary social anxieties.

Artist Statement

In her statement, Osano reflects on the challenges faced in 2025—a year marked by various global and domestic upheavals. She acknowledges the rising frustrations and insecurities within society, emphasizing that understanding traditional Japanese practices like Ikebana could offer solutions to the chaos of modern life. By intertwining Ikebana with the phenomenon of convenience stores, she hopes to create artworks that evoke conversations about identity, nostalgia, and the values we attach to our daily lives.
