Third AI-HPC Partners Meeting at Okayama University
On June 16, 2026, Okayama University hosted the third meeting of the AI-HPC Partners at their Tsushima Campus. This initiative draws together researchers and technical staff eager to explore applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High Performance Computing (HPC) in various fields. The meeting was held in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Tsushima Campus and was co-organized with the AI and Mathematical Data Science Center (Angels).
Approximately thirty participants comprising faculty members, students, university research administrators (URAs), and coordinators engaged in stimulating discussions and presentations during this event, which was alongside the “Okayama Research Fusion Lounge 2026 Spring.” The agenda included diverse formats of presentations targeting data-driven computing and collaborative research.
Sharing Insights on Cloud Utilization
The initial sessions were dedicated to showcasing cloud-based case studies. Notably, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud's research applications were discussed alongside internal data collaboration efforts at the university. This presentation enabled attendees to understand the practical use and potential of cloud technologies in their research endeavors.
Research Presentations Across Multiple Disciplines
As the event progressed, the focus shifted toward research presentations, where emerging insights from engineering, economics, and medicine were shared by experts in their respective fields. Faculty members like Prof. Akihito Kadota from the Faculty of Environmental Science discussed the evolving landscape of software development in the age of generative AI, while Assoc. Prof. Takehide Ishiguro delved into the quantitative analysis of overconfident management. Meanwhile, Dr. Masayoshi Fujisawa presented on digital pathology and its implications for medical images.
Encouraging Interdisciplinary Collaboration through Poster Sessions
The latter half of the event featured a vibrant session of research poster presentations. Researchers from various fields across the university showcased their findings, fostering an atmosphere conducive to interdisciplinary dialogue. Discussions ranged from applications of smart glasses in lecture environments to leveraging persistent homology for data science. This aspect of the meeting highlighted the university's commitment to nurturing cross-sector collaboration and innovation.
Following the formal program, an informal networking session allowed participants to discuss technical challenges and share career development strategies, fostering a community eager to collaborate across disciplines.
A Commitment to Innovation and Research Advancement
Okayama University's initiative through the AI-HPC Partners illustrates its dedication to advancing research support and promoting interdisciplinary fusion by utilizing AI and HPC technologies. The university aims to enhance research capabilities and spark innovation that will contribute to broader scientific and academic communities. Future activities should certainly be observed closely as Okayama University positions itself as an open and uniquely characterized research university in the region.
