Ontario International Airport Prepared for High Passenger Volume This Summer

Ontario International Airport Readies for a Busy Summer Season

Ontario International Airport (ONT) in California has announced exciting plans for the upcoming summer travel period, with expectations to greet more than 2.2 million passengers from late May to early September. This anticipated surge is made possible through the addition of new routes and an expansion of existing ones.

The projected number of air travelers at Ontario International for this season is estimated at 2,244,208, a figure that aligns closely with the predictions from the previous summer. This growth reflects ONT's position as a key player in Southern California's travel landscape, supported by an array of flight options to popular destinations across the United States.

New Flights and Expanded Services

Among the freshest offerings, Alaska Airlines will introduce daily nonstop flights to both Boise, Idaho, and Santa Rosa in Northern California, known for its picturesque vineyards. Southwest Airlines is also set to commence daily services to Honolulu, Hawaii, starting in June, making it easier for travelers to reach paradise.

Frontier Airlines will ramp up its connections from Ontario to Houston and San Francisco, increasing their operational frequency significantly. Specifically, Houston will see flights offered daily instead of twice weekly, while flights to San Francisco will rise from three to a daily schedule. Additionally, Delta Air Lines will add a third daily flight to Atlanta and enhance connectivity to Seattle with a fourth flight running from Wednesday to Sunday. United Airlines will not be left out, as they enhance their service to San Francisco as well. The return of JetBlue flights to New York (JFK) will cap off a robust selection of flight options available from ONT through the fall of 2026.

Expected Passenger Volume Breakdown

The airport's officials are projecting substantial passenger volumes, particularly in June, with estimates reaching around 637,867, followed by 643,593 in July and approximately 615,918 in August. Overall, these figures not only signify a recovery in air travel amidst fluctuating conditions but represent a reaffirmation of ONT's dedication to providing exceptional service.

Atif Elkadi, CEO of the Ontario International Airport Authority, expressed enthusiasm about the busy summer season, emphasizing their commitment to welcoming guests with a top-notch travel experience. He noted that whether visitors are coming for Southern California's renowned attractions, attending major events like the FIFA World Cup, or just reconnecting with loved ones, the airport aims to facilitate a memorable journey.

Enhancements and Innovations

To enhance the traveling experience, ONT has introduced various updates since the last summer, including expansions of popular dining venues like Brewery X and Chick-fil-A, available in both Terminals 2 and 4. The airport has also improved curbside access for ride-sharing services, adding premium Aspire Lounges, and offering attractive duty-free shopping options for international travelers. Further conveniences include competitively priced parking structures, with discounts for those who book in advance.

This summer marks a significant milestone for Ontario International Airport, celebrating ten years under local ownership, during which it has enjoyed a remarkable 70% increase in passenger volume, now exceeding 7 million travelers yearly. The airport's reputation has soared, landing it among the fastest-growing in California, supported by its distinguished ranking as the second most popular mid-sized airport in the United States, according to J.D. Power's North America Airport Satisfaction Study.

In conclusion, Ontario International Airport is prepared for a bustling summer travel season filled with opportunities for adventure and connectivity. The enhancements in flight services and customer experience aim to ensure that every traveler enjoys a smooth and enjoyable journey through this busy transportation hub.
