Transforming Environmental Action in Okayama with MeGo

The innovative MeGo app has recently been selected for funding by the Setouchi Oceans X promotion committee. This collaboration aims to enhance local environmental efforts by engaging students in a community clean-up initiative titled the "Asahikawa and Hyakken River Light Clean Model Project," set to launch fully in April 2026.

Background and Objectives

The Asahikawa and Hyakken Rivers are two significant waterways in Okayama City, contributing to the marine debris flowing into the Seto Inland Sea. Although there is a growing interest among local students in environmental issues, their participation often tends to be sporadic, lacking the consistency necessary for sustainable impact.

To address this challenge, MeGo will leverage its digital platform, allowing schools and community members to participate in a manageable clean-up activity designed to be completed in just 30 minutes. By documenting activities through photos, collected debris amounts, and geographical data recorded within the app, the initiative aims to visualize the positive outcomes of these efforts. Furthermore, students who engage in these clean-up activities will be rewarded with volunteer certificates, which can be utilized for future academic pursuits or job applications.

Recruiting Participating Schools

As part of this exciting initiative, MeGo is currently inviting educational institutions in Okayama City to join this collective endeavor.

- Eligible Participants: Middle schools, high schools, and universities within Okayama City (limited to 10 schools)
- Activity Details: Clean-up activities around school environments or the Asahikawa and Hyakken River areas, conducted approximately three times a year, each lasting around 30 minutes.
- Benefits: Issuance of volunteer certificates to students, environmental education focusing on SDGs and marine debris issues.
