Streamlining Truck Repair With Advanced Integration
Trimble and Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) have recently collaborated to modernize the truck maintenance landscape. Their integration of
Trimble Road Call, a module designed for vehicle breakdowns, with the
Freightliner Service Tracker marks a significant step toward simplifying the increasingly convoluted repair processes faced by commercial fleets. This announcement was made during the Technology Maintenance Council's Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibition.
The repair and maintenance sector is currently grappling with challenges. Daily,
2.5% to 5% of fleet vehicles are in repair, and costs have surged by
3.1% over the past year, compounded by increasing parts and labor prices. With a myriad of software options from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and service providers, maintenance managers often struggle with disparate systems that require different logins, creating duplicate admin work and inefficiencies. Repairs can take anywhere from
three to five days, particularly when communication is not digitized.
To counter these issues, the integration of Trimble Road Call and Freightliner Service Tracker provides a cohesive user interface that compiles maintenance tools from various service providers and OEMs into one platform. The new system offers several functionalities aimed at improving the repair process:
Key Features of the Integration
1.
Synchronized Equipment Repairs: When equipment is activated or disabled within the Trimble TMT Fleet Maintenance solution, asset lists are automatically synchronized with Service Tracker. This functionality allows maintenance managers and Daimler technicians to seamlessly input repair information into a centralized system, ensuring that repair orders, appointment requests, and order retrievals are streamlined.
2.
Status Updates: The integration continually monitors the repair process, providing fleets with regular status updates. These notifications include when maintenance begins, estimates for completion, alerts when vehicles are ready for pickup, and confirmation once a truck is collected by the driver.
3.
Instant Visibility: Fleet managers gain real-time visibility into all repair orders, including those not originating from TMT Fleet Maintenance. Dealer technicians can enter repair order details directly into the system if an unexpected disabled vehicle arrives for service, ensuring information is pulled into TMT Fleet Maintenance to automatically generate repair orders.
Paul Romanaggi, Chief CX Officer and GM of Service and Warranty at DTNA, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating that it not only streamlines repair communications but also maximizes vehicle uptime, focusing on ensuring fleets operate smoothly for drivers and customers alike.
Brian Mulshine, Senior Director of Product Management at Trimble, remarked on how this integration enhances connections between fleets and OEMs, reducing downtime and fostering a more efficient and resilient trucking industry.
The Trimble Road Call with Freightliner Service Tracker integration is available for Daimler customers enrolled in Service Tracker who utilize the
Trimble TMT Fleet Maintenance version 2023.2.3.817 or higher. It is also accessible for all Trimble TMT Fleet Maintenance clients utilizing the specified version.
This integration, built on the
Trimble Transportation Cloud, supports on-premise as well as SaaS customers and is also available for various third-party maintenance solutions. With its array of capabilities, the collaboration between Trimble and Daimler Truck North America is set to significantly enhance the efficiency of truck maintenance, benefiting fleets and drivers alike.
