Tokyo's Inclusive Equestrian Event
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is proud to announce the Tokyo Paralympic Sports Games Open Equestrian Competition, inviting participants of all abilities to join in the wonderful world of sports! This inclusive event, scheduled for December 14, 2025, will take place from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM at Sakura Plaza in Setagaya Park, Tokyo.
What to Expect
The event intends to foster opportunities for diverse participants to engage in sports, emphasizing that anyone, regardless of their abilities, can participate in the groundbreaking
para-sport of equestrianism. Equestrian is unique among Paralympic sports, as it is a competition that showcases the bond and teamwork between humans and animals without gender distinction.
Participants can look forward to several engaging activities:
- - Riding practice to prepare for the competition.
- - Inspirational talks by current Paralympic athletes, including Soshi Yoshigoe, who will share the joys of horseback riding.
This event guarantees a delightful and inclusive experience for all participants, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and camaraderie.
Event Schedule
The day's activities are structured as follows:
- - 9:15 AM: Registration begins.
- - 9:30 AM: Opening ceremony and briefing, along with warm-up exercises.
- - 10:00 AM: Riding practice and special talk by athlete Soshi Yoshigoe.
- - 12:00 PM: Break.
- - 12:30 PM: Gymkhana competition starts.
- - 3:10 PM: Awards ceremony, closing remarks, and event conclusion by 3:30 PM.
Note: A gymkhana is a type of equestrian competition that involves completing a designated course while competing against the clock.
Participation Requirements
Participants must meet the following criteria:
1. Must reside, work, or study in Tokyo.
2. Must be 12 years old or older as of December 1, 2025.
3. Open to everyone regardless of disabilities, with no limitations on the type of disability.
4. Participants must weigh 80 kg or less for safety reasons.
Participants will be categorized into entry classes based on their horseback riding experience:
- - Beginner Class: Riders who have never ridden before (with leaders).
- - Intermediate Class: Riders with some experience, with or without leaders.
Leaders will be provided to help control the horse's movements during the event.
Special Guest
Soshi Yoshigoe, a young and promising Paralympic equestrian athlete, will be one of the key speakers at the event. Born in 2000 with congenital cerebral palsy, Soshi has an inspiring story of triumph in the face of adversity and aims to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
