Eric Fuller Jr, once a shining star at Augustus Hawkins High School in Los Angeles, is reclaiming his life after spending nearly eight years behind bars. The athlete, known for his exceptional football talent, was poised for a future in the NFL before a moment of poor judgment led him down a different path.

At the age of 17, Fuller was involved in an armed robbery in 2017, a decision that would dramatically alter the trajectory of his life. Initially sentenced to over 32 years, his legal team, led by the esteemed appellate attorney David Zarmi, navigated a successful appeal arguing that the original sentence was excessive and included inappropriate enhancements. After a detailed evaluation by the California Court of Appeal, it was determined that Fuller deserved a resentencing hearing, which resulted in a reduced sentence and ultimately his release on February 7, 2025.

Zarmi, a specialist in appellate law with over 300 successful cases, passionately advocated for Fuller's case, emphasizing the potential of a young man who, before this incident, had received scholarship offers from prestigious colleges including Oklahoma, Michigan, Nebraska, and USC. During Fuller's resentencing, it was reiterated that there were no shots fired during the robbery and that he was a dedicated student with straight A's, who was on the brink of a promising career.

The courtroom was filled with supporters, including family and former coaches, who attested to Fuller’s character and potential. Coach Michael Fletcher, who had mentored Fuller from his early days in Pop Warner football, recalled his natural talent and leadership on the field.

Coach Fletcher expressed confidence in Fuller's abilities, stating, “He could play any position—quarterback, running back, wide receiver—he can do it all.” This sentiment was echoed by Coach Traison Lewis, who fondly remembered Fuller’s dedication, often seen studying while discussing plays with the coaching staff.

With his release, Fuller is now focused on revitalizing his career. Coach Lewis has committed to help Fuller at BBT Athletics and TCR Sports Performance in Rancho Santa Margarita. They are designing a training program to enhance his physical fitness, while also preparing him for entry into a junior college to continue his academic journey.

Supported by his family, particularly his father Eric Fuller Sr., who has seen significant changes in his own life, Fuller has the backing needed to turn his setbacks into opportunities. His father recently secured a job with the city of Los Angeles, prioritizing stability and success for himself and his family.
