Micro-Mobility Service LUUP Expands Across Osaka's 24 Wards and Surrounding Cities

LUUP Service Expansion in Osaka

Osaka is set to experience a significant update in urban mobility with the announcement from Luup Inc. regarding the expansion of its micro-mobility sharing service, LUUP. Starting from March 25, 2026, LUUP will introduce its service across all 24 wards of Osaka City, as well as in six surrounding cities: Suita, Moriguchi, Higashi-Osaka, Kadoma, Yao, and Sakai. This effort aims to address the pressing transportation challenges faced by locals and commuters alike.

The company has adopted the mission of transforming urban infrastructure to reflect a station-like convenience throughout the city. Currently, LUUP boasts over 16,500 ports and has surpassed 5 million app downloads, solidifying itself as one of Japan's largest micro-mobility sharing services. Initially launched in April 2021 in the bustling areas of Kita (Umeda) and Minami (Namba and Tennoji), the service has grown to encompass more than 2,000 ports.

Enhancing Urban Mobility

The new expansion area accommodates neighborhoods with a mix of residential and commercial spaces, while also addressing areas known for their steep hills and requiring cross-rail transport options. This recent addition cements LUUP's position as a vital alternative transportation service in regions demanding innovative mobility solutions. Following the successful establishment of ports across the entire 24 wards of Osaka City, locals will now benefit from seamless access to LUUP's offerings.

To celebrate this milestone, LUUP is launching the Free First Ride Campaign between April 1 and April 12, 2026. This campaign allows first-time users to enjoy a complimentary 60-minute ride from any of the designated ports within the new service areas. It’s a fabulous opportunity for locals to familiarize themselves with this efficient mode of transport while exploring the city.

Campaign Highlights

  • - Duration: April 1, 2026, 10:00 AM to April 12, 2026, 11:59 PM.
  • - Eligible Areas: Ports in the following Osaka districts will be active: Higashinari, Ikuno, Jo-tou, Abeno, Minato, Taisho, Konohana, Nishinari, Sumiyoshi, Asahi, Higashisumiyoshi, Hirano, and Sumiyoshi, and the six surrounding cities.
  • - Eligibility: Exclusively available for first-time LUUP users.
  • - Campaign Details: Users can depart from any participating port for a ride free of charge for up to 60 minutes during the campaign period.

Important Notes: To ensure a smooth experience, users should be aware that coupons will be automatically applied during payment. Multiple coupons will be processed sequentially so as not to overlap discounts. If a rider exceeds the initial 60 minutes, standard charges will commence thereafter.

Future Developments

The company’s strategy includes continuous expansion of vehicle numbers and port locations while collaborating with local authorities and police to enhance safety measures. This will ensure that LUUP remains a secure and reliable transportation option for everyone.

Luup's service includes the use of electric kickboards, electric assist bikes, and electric skateboards, all manageable through a user-friendly smartphone app. The basic ride fee stands at ¥50, with an additional ¥20 charged per minute. Riders will need to pass traffic rule tests and submit age verification documents to use specific vehicles like the electric kickboards.

As LUUP continues to develop and refine its service across Osaka and beyond, it aims to encourage safer and smarter urban travel choices. For businesses interested in hosting LUUP ports, the company is currently seeking partnerships to utilize unused spaces effectively and improve mobility accessibility.
