Vivid Sydney 2026: A Dazzling Festival Lights Up the City
As the sun set on June 13, 2026, the vibrant spectacle that is Vivid Sydney dimmed its lights, marking the successful conclusion of its 16th edition. Over the course of 23 enchanting nights, the city was transformed into a playground of light, art, and performance, celebrating both local and international talents.
Vivid Sydney has long been celebrated as one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive festivals of light, music, and ideas, returning this year with an impressive lineup and numerous unforgettable experiences. This year's event featured over 200 diverse programs spread across five interconnected areas: Circular Quay, The Rocks, Barangaroo, Darling Harbour, and the city center. Remarkably, more than 80% of the events were offered free of charge, making the festival accessible to all.
In a testament to its global appeal, Vivid Sydney showcased the extraordinary talent of 41 international artists who made their debuts in Australia. Key highlights included a breathtaking aerial performance and a captivating conversation with Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao. Other renowned figures participating this year included Oscar-winning filmmaker Sean Baker, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jerry Saltz, New York Times best-selling author Roxane Gay, and Grammy-nominated DJ Zane Lowe.
One of the standout events was the 'Regional Dinner Series' orchestrated by celebrated chef Yotam Ottolenghi, which celebrated the flavors of Australia while artists from around the globe transformed iconic Sydney landmarks with stunning light displays. For example, Yann Nguema's 'Opera Mundi' illuminated the Sydney Opera House and Chris Levine’s 'Molecule of Light' created a stunning light beacon near the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Brett Sheehy AO, the festival director of Vivid Sydney, expressed his immense pride in the event’s success, noting, “This year’s edition has exceeded our expectations, not only in ticket sales but in the level of enthusiasm, connection, and joy we observed throughout the city.”
A significant shift this year was the increased participation from visitors, who explored an average of 4.5 locations, spending about three hours enjoying the festivities during each visit. As Sheehy highlighted, “The audience embraced our 2026 initiatives, showcasing aerial acts, sculptures, and visual arts, along with the relocation and expansion of the Fire Kitchen, as well as our spectacular laser and fireworks displays.”
Major sponsors Kia, Samsung Electronics Australia, and IREN returned to support Vivid Sydney in 2026. Kia celebrated its fifth consecutive year as a key sponsor with the stunning 'Kia Refraction' installation at Bligh and Barney Reserve. At the same time, Samsung renewed its partnership for the same duration with its immersive Sky Portal Studio located at First Fleet Park. Additionally, Lilly Australia joined as an official partner, celebrating its 150th anniversary with a Vivid Minds panel titled 'A New Horizon for Health.'
Uber also presented as an official partner, providing exclusive pick-up and drop-off zones around the festival area, while serving as the primary sponsor for the 'Food for Thought' stage within the Vivid Fire Kitchen experience. Furthermore, the charitable partner for the festival in 2026 was Foodbank NSW & ACT, located at Tumbalong Park with their interactive 'Foodbank Truck Packer' installation.
As the lights fade on Vivid Sydney 2026, the echoes of joy and inspiration linger in the hearts of those who participated. The festival has once again taken its place as a beacon of creativity, showcasing Sydney’s unique ability to celebrate art and community on a global stage.
