Haystack's MCP Server Update: Bridging Intranet and AI
In a significant move designed to enhance workplace efficiency, Haystack has announced that its Model Context Protocol (MCP) server will now seamlessly integrate with popular AI platforms such as OpenAI's ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Slack. This upgrade, which rolls out on October 26, not only enables employees to find vital information within these platforms but also to create and publish content directly from them.
Haystack is renowned for transforming large organizations into environments that feel smaller and more cohesive. This latest update reinforces that mission by expanding access and functionality for employees. Since its initial launch in Claude back in August, the MCP server has gathered momentum and is now on a trajectory to improve how teams connect with their company knowledge and collaborate efficiently.
The integration allows users to ask questions and get instant, authorized answers pulled from Haystack's intranet. Each piece of information is tied back to its source, ensuring that employees receive credible answers that are contextually relevant. Each employee's individual Haystack account is required to log in, keeping data security at the forefront of this enhancement.
New Write Access
Starting October 26, Haystack will also offer writing access across these platforms. This means that employees aren't limited to just retrieving information; they can now actively contribute to their organization’s knowledge base. For instance, when a team member queries the MCP server for a specific document or instruction, the AI assistant can create a draft knowledge page for them. This page can be saved privately until the employee is ready to publish or share it within specific groups. Such functionalities can transform how teams collaborate and manage information, streamlining communication in ways that weren't possible before.
An example of productivity gains can be seen in a sales context. The head of sales can quickly generate a digest of quarterly figures into an easily digestible format shared with the entire company—keeping everyone in the loop without the painstaking efforts traditionally associated with such tasks. Each connection via Haystack respects all relevant permissions, ensuring that sensitive information is protected.
Compliance and Security
Haystack prides itself on maintaining the highest compliance standards, including SOC 2 Type 1, ISO 27001, and HIPAA compliance. This means every connection through the MCP server is safeguarded, and employees can trust that their interactions and data stay secure. Additionally, no customer data is used to train any AI models, emphasizing our commitment to privacy and security. Different tools can also be disabled at an admin's discretion, allowing organizations to customize their AI experience while ensuring safety protocols are adhered to.
According to Haystack's founder and CEO, Cameron Lindsay, the vision for the MCP server has always been about making workplace communication smoother and more efficient. “In August, we brought the intranet into Claude so employees could get answers without leaving their AI assistant. With the new writing feature, it empowers our users further—now they can find and publish company knowledge all from the same source,” he stated.
The exciting rollout of these connectors for ChatGPT, Copilot, and Slack is already available for existing Haystack customers. The move not only simplifies the workflow for employees but also positions Haystack as a forward-thinking leader in internal communications technology.
