BIWATT Expands Its Portfolio of Sodium-Ion Energy Storage Solutions

At Intersolar Europe 2026, BIWATT made headlines with the introduction of their new residential storage battery, PowerNest R5, and a commercial and industrial solution, PowerLake I3. This expansion enhances their existing lineup of sodium-ion energy storage options, designed for both residential and commercial applications.

While traditional approaches to battery integration often overlook the details of cell-level development, BIWATT has taken a different route. They focus on defining performance, safety, and reliability criteria from the initial design phases of the product. This commitment enables them to create a sodium-ion battery platform that is optimally configured for energy storage applications.

Building on their previous successes with sodium-ion batteries, including the PowerNest R2 and the stackable PowerNest R3, the new PowerNest R5 features modular scalability, intelligent battery optimization, and active balancing technology tailored for residential energy storage. Meanwhile, the PowerLake I3 broadens their reach into commercial and industrial markets, providing flexible implementation options and intelligent maintenance capabilities for solar energy storage, backup systems, and distributed energy projects.

To bolster its standing in international markets, BIWATT is pursuing UL1973 certification and UL9540A testing for its sodium-ion battery products, reinforcing its dedication to high safety standards. Owen, the CEO, emphasized during the launch event, "Energy storage requires more than just selecting a battery chemistry. We've actively engaged in cell-level innovation, developing sodium-ion batteries specifically for energy storage applications. Currently, BIWATT's sodium-ion products are utilized across more than 20 countries, predominantly in Europe, showcasing the growing commercial adoption of sodium-ion energy storage solutions.
