SANY's Milestone in Electrification with 1,000th Electric Excavator Launch

SANY Expands Electric Excavator Portfolio

SANY Group has reached a significant milestone by deploying its 1,000th electric excavator, highlighting a pivotal shift in the construction industry towards electrification. Over the years, SANY has invested heavily in research and development, with annual expenditures exceeding 6 billion RMB, to transform itself from a traditional manufacturer into a robotics and AI-focused enterprise.

Electrification and Intelligent Solutions

The modernization of equipment by SANY goes beyond merely switching power sources; it entails advancing both electrification and intelligence. Electrification serves to reduce emissions and operational costs while enhancing efficiency. The intelligent aspect, driven by remote control technology, addresses critical challenges, including operator safety and the physical limitations of machine operations on site.

Traditionally, construction heavily relies on operators being physically present, which exposes them to hazardous conditions. Early remote control solutions were hindered by poor user experiences and unstable connections, making them less scalable in real-world applications. To tackle these issues, SANY dedicated nearly a decade to R&D, introducing the SY550HD model—a 5G remote-controlled excavator that combines low latency, high precision, and intelligent safety features in a commercially viable solution.

Featuring Low Latency and Remote Control

With typical end-to-end latency ranging from 120 to 180 milliseconds, SANY’s innovative use of 5G algorithms and AI allows for remarkably stable latency figures of 120 to 140 milliseconds. This advancement facilitates real-time control from distances of up to 8,500 kilometers without the usual delays associated with command responses. The SY550HD can operate over public, private, or hybrid networks, supporting cross-regional remote operations regardless of network type.

High Precision in Operation

SANY's exclusive motion detection and 3D depth perception technologies, paired with an intelligent loading assistance system, effectively recreate on-site operational conditions, enabling operators to maintain situational awareness. This spatial awareness allows for precise evaluations of complex environments, ensuring millimeter-accurate operations that are ideal for mining, remote site engagements, and emergency interventions.

Intelligent Safety Features

Equipped with multidimensional sensors and AI algorithms, SANY machines feature a rapid-response digital protection system capable of operating within milliseconds. This system includes personnel detection, intelligent collision avoidance, and equipment status monitoring. At the system level, the machine autonomously records point cloud data and live video, which supports environmental detection, risk identification, and task adaptation. The operational model created combines machine perception capabilities with human oversight, enhanced by coordinated executions across remote systems.

Future Directions

Looking forward, SANY intends to increase R&D investments while focusing on essential components for electric powertrains, AI-assisted operations, unmanned construction, digital platforms, and integrated mining equipment. This strategic vision aims to enrich its intelligent product portfolio and expand large-scale commercial deployment in the construction and mining sectors.

Through these efforts, SANY reinforces its commitment to innovating and leading the industry towards a safer, more efficient future powered by electric and automated technologies.
