STARMUS VIII Celebrates Young Innovators with Junior Medals for Science and Conservation

STARMUS VIII Recognizes Tomorrow's Leaders in Science and Conservation

The STARMUS VIII international festival, celebrated for its focus on science, music, and exploration, has announced two outstanding young individuals as the recipients of their prestigious Junior Medals. Valeria Corrales from Spain and Aneeshwar Kunchala from the United Kingdom are being honored for their remarkable contributions to science communication and environmental conservation, respectively. This event showcases the next generation of leaders dedicated to inspiring change and shaping a better future.

Honoring Valeria Corrales: The Junior Stephen Hawking Medal

Valeria Corrales, at just 16 years old, has made enormous strides in science education through her platform ValPat, which she co-founded in 2018 at the age of ten. Her initiative aims to make science and technology accessible to younger audiences, featuring over 750 educational videos and accumulating 240,000 YouTube subscribers. During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Corrales and her mentor conducted a remarkable series of online STEM classes that continued for 100 consecutive days, ensuring thousands of children remained engaged with learning despite lockdowns.

Corrales's dedication has sparked significant recognition; in 2023, she was listed among Forbes Spain's 23 Changemakers. She has also been a finalist for the Princess of Girona Social Award and received accolades for her outstanding achievements in the global educational community, including recognition from the Global Student Prize initiative, which featured her as one of the top 10 finalists from nearly 11,000 candidates across 148 countries.

Currently pursuing a degree in Computational Media at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Valeria is furthering her exploration of how technology, creativity, and storytelling can enhance learning experiences. Her work embodies the legacy of Stephen Hawking, emphasizing the importance of curiosity and the democratization of scientific knowledge.

Celebrating Aneeshwar Kunchala: The Junior Jane Goodall Earth Medal

Aneeshwar Kunchala is another exemplary youth whose voice for wildlife and environmental conservation is echoing across borders. At only 11 years old, he has dedicated his life to spreading a critical message regarding wildlife protection and environmental awareness. His journey began at the age of four, catalyzed by the tragic story of a whale that succumbed to plastic pollution. This early encounter ignited his passion for conservation and motivated him to advocate for animal welfare.

Kunchala has achieved significant milestones, appearing on prominent networks such as BBC, Sky Kids, and Channel 5, to highlight pressing ecological issues. He has garnered numerous accolades, including three Guinness World Records, the Diana Award, and recognition as the first young columnist for National Geographic Kids UK. His work aims to inspire young people everywhere, compelling them to view biodiversity as a shared commitment across generations. His guiding principle is succinct yet powerful: “Save the animals and make sure the world looks beautiful.”

Two Young Voices, One Unified Mission

The legacies of Stephen Hawking and Jane Goodall continue to live through Valeria Corrales and Aneeshwar Kunchala, whose distinct yet interconnected missions encourage curiosity, empathy, and action in the face of global challenges. STARMUS VIII presents these awards not only to honor their individual successes but also to shine a light on the importance of nurturing young minds eager to tackle the issues of our time. The festival, themed 'The Search for Truth,' will take place in Tenerife and La Palma, Canary Islands, from October 17 to 22, 2026, uniting leaders in science and the arts to discuss vital matters of knowledge and integrity in an increasingly complex world.
