WCIFIT 2026: A Gateway to Global Innovation in Chongqing
On May 21, 2026, the bustling city of Chongqing served as the backdrop for the
8th Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT). This significant event attracted nearly
1,400 companies from over
50 countries and regions, emphasizing new opportunities in trade, investment, and industrial collaboration within Western China.
Running until May 24, the four-day fair covers a vast exhibition area of

Unitree robots and
flying cars developed by
Changan, along with the chance to taste authentic
Chongqing cuisine.
Special Guests and Themes
The UK holds the title of
guest country, underscoring this year's fair. The province of
Sichuan is the permanent guest province, while
Gyeonggi Province in South Korea acts as the guest city. Notable representatives from the UK, including prominent figures from
McLaren, GSK, HSBC, and
InterContinental Hotels Group, are present to foster international collaboration.
Peter Wilson, the British Ambassador to China, highlighted the transformation of Chongqing. He noted, "Chongqing has evolved from a hub of heavy industries to a vibrant center for
high-tech manufacturing, digital innovation, and
modern services. Today, it stands as a gateway to Western China, driving regional growth and enhancing its significance within global supply chains."
Wilson stressed that these advancements align with the UK's priorities, focusing on areas such as
advanced manufacturing, digitalization, and
sustainable growth, which provides a solid foundation for deeper cooperation.
Kim Dae-soon, Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, stated that the partnership between Gyeonggi and Chongqing has grown sturdier, sharing the proverb, "A close neighbor is better than a distant relative." This suggests that the fair could strengthen bilateral economic relations between China and South Korea.
Investment Opportunities
During the opening ceremony, Chongqing introduced its investment opportunity list for the first time, presenting
277 projects valued at nearly
580 billion Yuan across five core sectors:
modern manufacturing,
scientific and technological innovations,
new energy and data center development,
inland openness, and
urban modernization.
Additionally, a signing ceremony for major projects took place during this year's WCIFIT, with
212 projects being inked in fields ranging from
smart, connected vehicles with alternative drives to
next-generation electronic technologies and
biomedicine.
