BIT Asset Management Gains FINMA Approval for Switzerland's First Bitcoin ETF, Pioneering Europe

BIT Asset Management Launches Switzerland's First Bitcoin ETF

BIT Asset Management AG, a fully owned Swiss subsidiary of BIT, has proudly announced that it has received the necessary approval from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) for its Bitcoin Fund ETF (ticker: BBIT). This groundbreaking move marks not just a first for Switzerland but also positions the fund as the sole Bitcoin ETF available in Europe.

Scheduled to debut on the SIX Swiss Exchange in November, the Bitcoin Fund ETF is designed to actively reflect the movements of Bitcoin's price and represents a unique investment route for individuals looking to enter the cryptocurrency market through a regulated structure.

Unlike many existing products that expose investors to Bitcoin via futures contracts or debt securities, the Bitcoin Fund ETF is distinctively structured to hold actual Bitcoins. This direct investment model aims to facilitate a smoother integration of Bitcoin into traditional investment portfolios, a strategy previously seen in the United States with the launch of multiple spot Bitcoin ETFs in early 2024, including the notable iShares Bitcoin Trust from BlackRock.

Most currently available Bitcoin-related products in Europe are categorized as exchange-traded products (ETPs), which are debt-based instruments posing issuer risk. In contrast, the Bitcoin Fund ETF operates as a collective investment scheme under Swiss law. The fund's assets are insulated from the management firm's holdings, with a clear provision safeguarding them for the benefit of investors. This makes the fund accessible not only to qualified investors but also to the general public in Switzerland.

John Ge, the CEO of BIT Group, emphasized the importance of this development by stating, "Switzerland has established itself as a key hub for digital assets, combining a robust financial sector, a transparent regulatory framework, and an innovative ecosystem. For BIT Group, this solidifies our commitment to further expand internationally. The launch of the Swiss Bitcoin ETF is a significant milestone; it reflects our long-term dedication to the Swiss market and our ambition to bridge traditional finance with emerging technologies."

Moreover, Dominik Oggenfuss, CEO of BIT Asset Management, reinforced the strategic approach taken with the BBIT ETF, stating, "We set out to create a genuine Swiss Bitcoin ETF, encompassing fund management, custody, and listing on the SIX Swiss Exchange. This enables investors to gain direct exposure to Bitcoin through a FINMA-regulated investment fund, benefiting from the regulatory oversight and investor protection measures inherent in Switzerland's established collective investment framework. Investors can now access Bitcoin through a standard Swiss bank account, enjoying Swiss fund governance, independent custody, and daily transparency regarding holdings."

Investors are, however, advised to be fully aware of the high-risk nature of investing in the Bitcoin ETF, as it is classified within Switzerland's regulatory category of 'Other alternative investment funds' with specific risks. This fund exclusively invests in Bitcoin, which is known for its extreme volatility. Furthermore, investment risks associated with this fund cannot be equated with those of securities funds, and the use of temporary borrowing can potentially amplify risk exposure up to 125% of net asset value. Investors are encouraged to carefully review the fund's documentation and risk warnings prior to investment, as its distribution is currently restricted to Switzerland only.

In conclusion, BIT Asset Management AG stands at the forefront of financial innovation, dedicated not just to managing assets but actively helping shape the future of investment through technology. Established in Zurich and formerly known as Crypto Finance (Asset Management) AG, the firm is committed to providing regulated fund options bridging traditional finance and digital assets. under the leadership of Dominik Oggenfuss, it continues to evolve within the rapidly changing landscape of finance.
