Bybit Secures MiCAR License and Opens European Headquarters in Vienna

On June 3, 2025, Bybit, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, made headlines by securing a license under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) from the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA). This licensing agreement marks a significant milestone in Bybit's strategic expansion in the European market and allows the exchange to operate as a fully regulated service provider of crypto assets. With this new license, Bybit can offer its regulated and localized cryptocurrency services to nearly 500 million residents in 29 member states of the European Economic Area (EEA) through its newly established European headquarters in Austria.

The MiCAR license reflects Bybit's unwavering commitment to meeting the highest regulatory standards in Europe, including key measures to enhance transparency, prevent illegal activities, and safeguard consumers within the European Union's digital finance ecosystem.

"The acquisition of the MiCAR license in Austria underscores our dedication to compliance and regulation," said Ben Zhou, co-founder and CEO of Bybit. "We are actively collaborating with regulatory authorities and pursuing licenses worldwide to ensure our users have access to our innovative platform with maximum legal certainty and compliance."

As part of its planned European market expansion, Bybit also announced plans to significantly invest in Austria, intending to hire over 100 professionals in Vienna to provide users with localized and regulated services. "Receiving the MiCAR license demonstrates our commitment to compliance and transparency in line with the high regulatory standards of the European Union," stated Mazurka Zeng, CEO of Bybit Europe.

"Vienna has become the home of Bybit Europe, and we take pride in contributing to a progressive financial environment in Austria through investments in talent and innovation. Additionally, we are committed to fostering a strong local cryptocurrency community. Through our Blockchain for Good Alliance (BGA) initiative, we will also offer our resources for close collaboration with universities throughout the region to cultivate a new generation of blockchain innovators and seek meaningful real-world applications for the technology," Zeng added.

Bybit has emerged as the second-largest platform for trading crypto assets globally, providing access to its innovative investment products and cryptocurrency services to over 70 million users worldwide. The newly established Bybit EU headquarters will serve clients from the EEA through its specialized Bybit EU platform.
