Indra and AXISCADES Team Up to Innovate Aerospace Solutions in India

In a significant development for the aerospace and defense sector, Indra, a distinguished European global leader, has entered into a strategic alliance with AXISCADES, a prominent Indian technology solutions provider. This collaboration was formally established during the Paris Air Show, where the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at boosting the production of innovative solutions tailored for the aerospace and defense markets in India.

Indra is recognized worldwide for its commitment to advancing defense, aerospace, and strategic systems. The company’s Chief Executive Officer, José Vicente de los Mozos, and Dr. Sampath Ravinarayanan, Chairman of AXISCADES, officially initiated this partnership amid the industry’s leading figures, including Indra Chairman Angel Escribano and AXISCADES CEO Alfonso Martínez. This partnership signifies a mutual intent to leverage each other's strengths, with Indra aspiring to acquire a broad range of defense-related products and services through AXISCADES’ efficient design, development, and production facilities located in India.

The agreement portrays an intense focus on co-developing products specifically designed for both Indian and global markets. Both companies are exploring opportunities to adapt existing offerings from Indra or initiate new developments that meet the exact needs of their clients. Notably, the collaboration entails the manufacture of a variety of advanced systems at AXISCADES, including antennas for Indra's Tactical Air Navigation Systems (TACAN) and Distance Measuring Equipment (DME), which provide critical in-flight information to pilots.

Furthermore, the partnership is aimed at producing advanced countermeasure systems, integral to an overarching strategy designed by Indra. These systems aim to enhance aircraft safety and protect them from the threat of missile attacks. The technology harnesses capabilities such as those found in MANPADS (Man-Portable Air Defense Systems), a crucial component of aerial defense strategies today.

This alliance not only solidifies Indra's position in the global aerospace systems market but also enhances AXISCADES’ capability as a significant contributor to the Indian defense sector. The joint efforts are expected to bolster India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, an industry in which Indra has been deeply invested for several years. The company has achieved notable milestones, providing state-of-the-art systems to India’s Armed Forces and engaging in modernization initiatives pertinent to civil air traffic management.

In addition to immediate product developments, Indra and AXISCADES are evaluating further collaborations within maritime airborne solutions (MPA) and potential partnerships under programs facilitated by India’s Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), specifically targeting the CABS MRMR and MMMA initiatives. These explorations highlight a shared commitment to innovation and growth in the aerospace domain.

AXISCADES boasts over 25 years of extensive experience within aerospace, defense, and Electronic Systems and Industrial Automation (ESAI) sectors. Their comprehensive range of services extends from conceptual design to manufacturing and certification, granting them a valuable position among Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers.

The collaboration between Indra and AXISCADES represents a stride towards nurturing and enhancing local capabilities in the defense sector, paving the way for advancements in technology and innovation that contribute to national security and regional stability. As both companies embark on this partnership, they are primed to make significant contributions, not only to the Indian defense industry but to global aerospace progress as well.
