Revitalization of Rapid Charging Stations at Ebina Service Area on Tomei Expressway
In today's world, the demand for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure is more critical than ever, particularly as the capability of EV batteries continues to improve. In light of this growing need,
e-Mobility Power, under the leadership of President Kotaro Ikegame, is excited to announce a major renewal project for the rapid charging stations located at the
Ebina Service Area on both the up and down lanes of the Tomei Expressway.
This initiative is made possible through the support of stakeholders and thanks to a grant from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry aimed at promoting the use of clean-energy vehicles. These updates to the charging facilities will not only improve the efficiency of service but also enhance the overall user experience for the growing number of electric vehicle users traveling through one of Japan's most prominent highway service areas.
Upgrading the Facilities
The Ebina Service Area boasts one of the highest visitor numbers in the nation, making it an ideal location for such improvements. Currently, there are three rapid chargers installed in both the up and down service areas. Given the recent advancements in EV technology—which include larger battery capacities and faster charging requirements—it has become essential to upgrade these facilities accordingly.
The renovation project will see the implementation of three new rapid charging units, specifically the
SERA-400, which can deliver a maximum output of 350 kW and operate at voltages up to 1000V. This upgrade aims to address the increasing demand for quick charging services, accommodating a possible rise in user traffic. These state-of-the-art chargers will be capable of charging various vehicle models efficiently, with capabilities dependent on individual battery configurations.
Accessibility Features
In alignment with the Ministry of Economy's guidelines for public charging facilities, the new installations will focus on accessibility. Generous spacing between parking spaces will be ensured, alongside the elimination of barriers to create an environment conducive to all users, including those with disabilities. Each charging unit will follow universal design principles, fostering inclusivity and ease of use for everyone.
The targeted completion dates for this renewal project are summer 2026 for the up service area and winter 2026 for the down service area. Though the construction may temporarily limit access to some charging stations, the long-term benefits will significantly enhance the EV charging experience for consumers.
This initiative underscores e-Mobility Power's commitment to providing reliable and affordable charging services to promote sustainable mobility. We are dedicated to enabling users to charge their vehicles anytime and anywhere, ensuring that the transition to electric vehicles is as seamless as possible.
Commitment to the Future
As e-Mobility Power progresses with this project, we remain dedicated to collaborating with various stakeholders to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through effective charging service delivery. Further updates regarding construction timelines and service availability will be provided in due course, ensuring that users are well-informed throughout this transition period.
