Seegene Launches Allplex™ MDRO Assay to Enhance Antimicrobial Resistance Testing in Europe
Seegene Launches Allplex™ MDRO Assay in Europe
On May 29, 2026, Seegene, a prominent player in molecular diagnostics, announced the launch of its innovative Allplex™ MDRO Assay in Europe, showcasing its compliance with the In Vitro Diagnostic Regulation (IVDR). This new antimicrobial resistance (AMR) testing solution serves as a vital addition to the company's existing portfolio, targeting a pressing need for rapid and reliable detection of multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) in clinical environments.
The Allplex™ MDRO Assay is designed to identify key multidrug-resistant pathogens and their associated resistance genes simultaneously. By allowing for quick diagnostics, this assay is aimed at supporting healthcare facilities in timely infection prevention and control (IP&C) measures before waiting for culture results. As global antimicrobial resistance rises dramatically, the demand for comprehensive diagnostic methodologies has escalated, emphasizing the importance of effective surveillance and control measures in healthcare settings.
This assay not only complements Seegene's previously launched Allplex™ Entero-DR, but also fosters a comprehensive analytical approach that integrates the detection of both enteric antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and various high-risk MDROs. This dual approach is essential for optimizing infection control measures and enhancing overall antimicrobial resistance testing capabilities.
The Allplex™ MDRO Assay can simultaneously detect multiple resistance genes, with reporting capabilities on the same day, which is vital for informing clinical decision-making in real-time. It aligns with conventional lab workflows based on cultures but enhances efficiency and rapid response times, ensuring better management of antibiotic resistance in clinical settings.
Daniel Shin, Executive Vice President and Global Sales and Marketing Director at Seegene, emphasized the significance of this release: "This launch represents more than just the introduction of a new product; it marks a significant step in broadening our diagnostic offerings to support infection control efforts in hospitals. We are dedicated to developing diagnostics solutions that can be effectively implemented in real-world clinical environments.”
Given the increasing burden of healthcare-associated infections, the introduction of the Allplex™ MDRO is timely as it meets the urgent call for improved diagnostic resources and contributes to better public health strategies through enhanced surveillance and prophylactic measures in healthcare institutions.
Additionally, Seegene is actively working on developing the Allplex™ MRSA assay for detecting Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), with a release scheduled for the coming year as part of its ongoing commitment to expanding its portfolio of antimicrobial resistance tests.
