Clarios' Innovative hAGM Batteries Receive Second Order from Major U.S. Automaker

Clarios Secures Second Order for hAGM Batteries

Clarios, a prominent name in low-voltage battery technology, continues to make waves in the automotive sector. Recently, the company announced a new contract with a leading U.S. automaker to supply its cutting-edge hAGM (Hybrid Absorbent Glass Mat) batteries for the forthcoming 2028 model year of full-size SUVs. This new deal marks a significant expansion in Clarios’ ongoing commitment to enhancing battery performance and sustainability in the automotive arena.

Enhancing Performance and Sustainability

The advanced hAGM batteries from Clarios come with improved charge acceptance features, allowing vehicles to benefit from longer engine-off durations. This functionality not only boosts fuel efficiency but also plays a pivotal role in reducing CO2 emissions, thereby assisting automotive manufacturers in meeting stringent environmental standards. Federico Morales-Zimmermann, Vice President and General Manager for Clarios, emphasized the company's role in this transformative journey, stating, "We recognize the critical role we play in helping manufacturers design more efficient vehicles and meet their CO2 and tailpipe emission reduction targets."

With this new order, production of hAGM batteries is scheduled to initiate in the fourth quarter of 2026 at Clarios’ Toledo AGM plant. The contract ensures an impressive annual production volume of up to 745,000 units, supporting both full-size SUVs and previously confirmed pickup truck programs over a projected seven-year timeline.

Meeting the Evolving Demands of the Automotive Industry

In today’s rapidly evolving automotive landscape, vehicles are increasingly burdened with higher electrical demands. The hAGM technology from Clarios is engineered to not only meet these demands but also ensure safety and reliability through its non-spillable design. This positions the technology as a cornerstone in the industry's push towards electrification and sustainable energy solutions.

Clarios is also making strides in developing various battery technologies, including lithium-ion and sodium-ion solutions, which are crucial for hybrid and fully electric vehicles. Additionally, the company maintains a diverse portfolio that includes SLI (Starting, Lighting, and Ignition) and EFB (Enhanced Flooded Batteries), catering to the multi-faceted needs of its clients in the automotive industry.

Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is a core focus for Clarios, guiding their operations and product development. They have set ambitious goals aiming for 100% recyclability of their products and are actively involved in recycling 8,000 batteries each hour across their network. This commitment not only reinforces their leadership in the battery sector but also aligns with the global transition towards greener energy solutions.

In summary, as Clarios positions itself at the forefront of low-voltage battery technology, the company’s new contract for its hAGM batteries demonstrates a significant step forward in supporting the automotive industry’s environmental goals while enhancing vehicle performance. Clarios continues to innovate and maintain its pivotal role in the development of sustainable energy solutions.
