The FDI World Dental Federation (FDI) is set to host its third Virtual Summit on Sustainability in Dentistry, scheduled for June 5 to 6, 2025. This event aims to provide a global platform for dental professionals to exchange knowledge and share real-world implementation strategies for sustainable practices. Following the success of its earlier summits in 2023 and 2024, this summit focuses on equipping dental practitioners with applicable solutions and evidence-based guidance.
During the Summit, attendees will hear from industry sustainability leaders, explore inspiring case studies, and gain access to new educational resources developed to empower them in creating a lasting impact on environmental practices. Dr. Greg Chadwick, president of FDI, expressed his excitement for this year's program, stating that it shifts the focus from theory to actionable steps. By providing practical tools and resources, FDI is enabling oral health professionals worldwide to contribute responsibly to ecological sustainability.
In preparation for the summit, FDI has introduced several new resources as part of its Sustainability in Dentistry Project. Earlier this year, a second Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) titled "Addressing Common Challenges in Sustainable Dentistry" was launched. This course goes beyond foundational principles to help dental teams implement sustainable practices, addressing common barriers and offering practical strategies to overcome them.
Additionally, FDI has developed a comprehensive set of educational resources tailored for academic institutions and training providers. These materials aim to facilitate curricular integration and institutional change, equipping the next generation of dental professionals with the knowledge and values necessary to advocate for environmental responsibility.
Since the launch of the Sustainability in Dentistry Project in 2021, FDI has highlighted numerous innovative efforts across its global network, which includes national dental associations, educational institutions, and private practices. Initiatives such as the Sustainability Toolkit, the Pledge for Sustainable Oral Healthcare, and Sustainability Awards continue to drive progress. Strategic partnerships with industry leaders further ensure a long-term impact on sustainable practices in dentistry.
Join this pivotal event on June 5 and 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM EST (4:00 PM to 5:30 PM CEST) to be part of a movement that aims to enhance the environmental footprint of the dental profession worldwide. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn, collaborate, and foster a community devoted to sustainability in dentistry.
