Perpetua Resources Marks Major Milestone for Stibnite Gold Project With Officials' Support

Perpetua Resources Celebrates Progress in Stibnite Gold Project

Perpetua Resources Corp. has formally recognized a significant step forward for its Stibnite Gold Project, following more than eight years of extensive permitting reviews. On September 19, 2025, leaders from various branches of the U.S. government, including the Governor of Idaho, representatives from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the U.S. Army, gathered to mark this milestone in the historic Stibnite Mining District in Idaho.

The Importance of the Stibnite Project

The Stibnite Gold Project stands out not only for its potential economic impact but also due to its strategic importance in enhancing U.S. national security. Jon Cherry, the President and CEO of Perpetua Resources, emphasized this point during the ceremony, stating that the project will contribute to securing a domestic supply of antimony, a critical mineral essential for military applications and advanced defense systems. He remarked, "American readiness starts here. We are ready to secure American antimony and provide meaningful environmental benefits to the historical site."

The project recently received a Notice to Proceed from the U.S. Forest Service, signifying that it has satisfied all requirements specified in the Record of Decision. Financial assurance must now be posted to commence development, which aims to address both economic and environmental needs simultaneously.

Economic and Environmental Benefits

Expected to create more than 950 jobs during construction and over 550 jobs during operational phases, the Stibnite Gold Project is projected to significantly benefit the local economy. It aims to fill a crucial gap in the U.S. supply chain for antimony, which is largely controlled by foreign nations, particularly China, which accounts for approximately 80% of U.S. imports. Developing this domestic resource is critical to reducing reliance on international sources and ensuring a secure supply of materials necessary for defense and technology.

The project is designed to recover 450,000 ounces of gold annually over the first four years of mining, alongside producing antimony. Notably, it is projected to supply up to 35% of U.S. antimony demand, which was previously dominated by imports.

In addition to its economic advantages, the Stibnite Gold Project is committed to environmental restoration. The initiative includes plans to clean up legacy mining contamination, restore fisheries to their native spawning grounds, and improve overall habitat quality. To date, Perpetua Resources has invested over $20 million in restoring water quality and has successfully removed over 375,000 tons of legacy waste.

Community Impact and Contributions

During the event, Perpetua presented a check for $350,000 to the Stibnite Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to benefiting the people and environment near the project site. This foundation exemplifies the company’s commitment to fostering strong community relations and addressing local concerns. Following key milestones, Perpetua plans to continue its charitable contributions and establish a profit-sharing partnership as the project enters operations.

Idaho’s Governor Brad Little expressed his support for the project, emphasizing its transformational potential for local communities and the state's economy.
"This is exactly the kind of transformative project I want the SPEED Council to embrace. Idaho remains committed to a transparent and streamlined regulatory process to enhance our economic vitality,"* he stated during the ceremony.

Looking Ahead

As Perpetua Resources confidently moves into the next stages of development, the Stibnite Gold Project isn't just another mining operation. It's a pivotal initiative aimed at ensuring U.S. national security through the responsible sourcing of critical minerals, creating jobs, and restoring the environment. This new chapter in the Stibnite history promises to have lasting effects on Idaho's economy and, more broadly, on the United States' position in the global minerals market. The company anticipates that this project will become a cornerstone of American resilience in the face of evolving geopolitical challenges.
