MoonPie to Honor Service Members with 'Patriotic Pies'
This Independence Day, MoonPie, the beloved graham cracker-marshmallow sandwich, has created a heartwarming campaign aimed at supporting our troops. Leading up to the Fourth of July, MoonPie will match donations made toward “Patriotic Pies” sent to active-duty service members. This initiative allows consumers to share a piece of home with those who protect our freedom.
From
June 30 through July 4, consumers can visit
moonpie.com/patrioticpies to purchase Mini MoonPies, and for every donation made, MoonPie will match it by shipping freshly baked treats directly from Chattanooga Bakery to military personnel via the USO. Tory Johnston, the vice president of sales and marketing at Chattanooga Bakery, expressed gratitude for the troops' service, stating, "We’re honored to celebrate our men and women in uniform with a taste of home. We've been making MoonPies for five generations, and we're so grateful to the troops who protect us and serve our country. This is our way of saying thank you."
The Patriotic Pies come in festive red, white, and blue colors—strawberry, vanilla, and blueberry flavors, with the all-new "Once in a Blue Moon" blueberry MoonPie joining the lineup in 2024. Classic favorites like chocolate, vanilla, banana, and salted caramel remain staples, with seasonal limited-edition flavors that include lemon and pumpkin spice appearing throughout the year.
Chattanooga Bakery has a significant goal for this campaign: to distribute one million Patriotic Pies in
2025! MoonPie produces over
one million of these delightful snacks daily, making them an iconic choice for anyone looking to enjoy a treat while supporting a good cause.
In partnership with organizations like the
USO, Friends of the Troops, and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), MoonPies are recognized as a vital connection to home for military members stationed both on bases in the U.S. and abroad. The veteran-owned company
Averitt, based in Tennessee, contributes by transporting the pies at no cost, ensuring that every service member can receive a sweet reminder of home.
Notably, MoonPies are also handed out during deployment departures and arrivals, filling a unique role in the soldiers' lives. Last year, the company even shipped Patriotic Pies to Greenland for troops serving with the Space Force, highlighting their dedication to reaching every service member, regardless of their location.
“
The USO has provided 'tastes of home' to service members for over 80 years, and Chattanooga Bakery has made it easy for everyone to participate in this support,” said Lisa Marie Riggins, USO regional president.
