Global Electronics Group's Participation in the Agribusiness Creation Fair 2025
The Global Electronics Group, specifically Global Micronics Co., Ltd., headquartered in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, is set to showcase its innovative technologies at the Agribusiness Creation Fair, taking place from November 26th to 28th, 2025, at Tokyo Big Sight. This event, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, will feature the group’s advancements in smart agriculture, particularly through a demonstration of an automatic irrigation system for cultivating watermelons in sandy dune regions. At the event, they will also unveil the integration of their OSMO soil moisture sensor and Nippo Co., Ltd.'s irrigation controller, "Irrigation NAVI", showcasing the potential of automated agricultural practices.
Commitment to Smart Agriculture
The Global Electronics Group is addressing critical issues faced by Japan’s agriculture sector, including an aging workforce and increased abandoned farmland. Their focus areas include Kanazawa and Kahoku cities in Ishikawa Prefecture, where they are developing smart agricultural devices and conducting field demonstrations. The sandy dune fields in Ishikawa have unique characteristics, including limited water retention and variable moisture levels, necessitating meticulous irrigation management for the production of local specialties like watermelons and sweet potatoes. Traditional irrigation practices, which often require farmers to travel extensive distances to manually open and close valves, can be a significant burden.
Moreover, the quality of produce is highly dependent on skilled irrigation management, presenting hurdles for expanding farm sizes and encouraging new entrants into agriculture. In light of these challenges, the Global Electronics Group aims to promote smart agriculture, leveraging their expertise in analog technology and sensor technology to revolutionize farming practices in Japan.
Details of the Agribusiness Creation Fair Exhibit
1.
Automatic Irrigation System for Watermelon Cultivation
The Automatic Irrigation System is based on soil moisture sensors designed to significantly reduce the time spent on irrigation management for outdoor watermelon cultivation. The system employs multiple sensors to measure soil moisture at various depths and utilizes wireless networks to collect data, which is then stored in the cloud. This data is analyzed using AI to identify optimal irrigation patterns tailored to the crop’s needs, enabling automated control of electromagnetic valves to provide precise irrigation.
The equipment is designed to endure outdoor conditions, featuring waterproof and dustproof capabilities. The OSMO soil moisture sensor, in particular, is well-suited for sandy areas prone to uneven water retention. The target is to reduce labor by 20%, with future plans to apply the technology to other crops like sweet potatoes.

OSMO Soil Moisture Sensor and Irrigation NAVI Application Examples
Through a combination of sensors measuring cumulative solar radiation proportional to transpiration and a maximum of eight sensors gauging soil moisture at various depths, the system ensures optimized irrigation tailored to the plant’s needs.
