DuPont's FilmTec™ Hypershell™ Element Revolutionizes Dairy Processing

DuPont has unveiled its latest innovation in dairy processing—the FilmTec™ Hypershell™ XP RO-8038 reverse osmosis (RO) element. This advanced technology is designed to meet the pressing demands of dairy producers who are challenged to enhance efficiency, lower energy consumption, and maintain superior product quality in the face of rising consumer expectations.

The FilmTec™ Hypershell™ XP RO-8038 stands out in the dairy sector as a high-performance solution that targets the concentration and polishing of vital dairy process streams such as milk, whey, and lactose. This element not only promises remarkable performance but also offers considerable energy savings and a longer operational lifespan compared to its competitors.

One of the standout features of the Hypershell™ XP RO-8038 is its ability to deliver up to 50 percent higher productivity and flow rates, all while requiring up to 50 percent less energy to operate at comparable flux levels found in existing dairy membrane technologies. This significant reduction in energy consumption translates directly into lower operational costs for dairy producers, allowing them to achieve more from their processing equipment.

Noel Carr, the Global Dairy Market Leader for DuPont Water Solutions, stated, "This new element represents a significant leap in membrane technology for dairy applications. With its innovative membrane chemistry and expanded active area, it empowers producers to achieve higher yields, reduced costs, and more sustainable operations, effectively contributing to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions."

The expanded active membrane area of the FilmTec™ Hypershell™ XP RO-8038 is engineered for optimal productivity and enhanced flow rates. Additionally, it operates efficiently at lower energy demands without sacrificing performance. This unique characteristic enables dairy processors to benefit from significant cost reductions and operational efficiencies.

The Hypershell™ XP RO-8038 also facilitates improved product quality and yield from milk, whey, and lactose streams. Increased recovery rates within polishing systems result in less wastewater, while the element’s longevity and reduced replacement needs further contribute to diminished costs. It ensures lower capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operating expenses (OPEX) through heightened efficiency and decreased chemical usage.

DuPont introduced this forward-thinking reverse osmosis element during the Membrane Technology Forum USA, an event focusing on advancements in commercial membrane technology within the dairy industry. Dr. Jie Song, a Lead Research Scientist at DuPont, presented findings showcasing the cost-effectiveness of the Hypershell™ XP RO-8038, shedding light on its impressive productivity improvements and energy savings.

On July 10, 2025, DuPont will hold an educational webinar to introduce potential users to the capabilities of the FilmTec™ Hypershell™ XP RO-8038 element, explaining its potential to optimize dairy processing operations. Interested parties can register for the webinar through DuPont's website.
