Dehua White Porcelain Exhibition Unveiled in Los Angeles

On November 21, 2025, an exhibition highlighting the exquisite Dehua white porcelain was inaugurated in Los Angeles, attracting more than 100 guests from both the United States and China. The event not only aimed to showcase the elegance of this traditional craftsmanship but also sought to foster cultural understanding between the two nations.

Titled "The Aesthetics of Harmony Blanc de Chine, Porcelain from Dehua," the exhibition features approximately 100 meticulously crafted ceramic artworks along with photographic displays. This unique blend of traditional porcelain-making techniques and contemporary design principles effectively illustrates the intricate cultural legacy and artistic beauty that Dehua ceramics embody.

Addressing the attendees, Huang Hongjiang, the deputy consul general of China in Los Angeles, articulated the significance of Dehua porcelain, stating that it represents both China’s rich cultural heritage and its modern craftsmanship. Huang emphasized the potential for progressive cooperation between China and the U.S., particularly as the two countries look towards the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, which promises robust opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, and cultural exchange. He encouraged greater dialogue and shared initiatives to enhance mutual benefits and strengthen ties.

Fang Junqin, the head of Dehua County from southeastern China’s Fujian Province, expressed hope that the exhibition would give American attendees a chance to appreciate the elegance and essence of Dehua porcelain, highlighting the Eastern aesthetic that it conveys. Local visitor Fred Stehle, who traveled from Whittier, commented on the intricate details and delicate craftsmanship of the porcelain pieces. He remarked, “These artworks beautifully merge Chinese tradition with modern design, and I am fascinated by their depth and beauty. We have a keen interest in Chinese culture, and I hope to delve deeper into learning about it. I also look forward to visiting China again in the near future.”

The exhibition not only celebrates China’s artistic contributions but also acts as a conduit for cultural exchange, allowing American audiences to experience the heritage and narrative behind Dehua porcelain. Furthermore, it creates a dialogue about the importance of art in bridging gaps between different cultures. The integration of this traditional Chinese craft with contemporary artistic expression embodies the innovative spirit, underscoring that history and modernity can coexist and enrich one another.

As the exhibition continues, it serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Dehua ceramics, inviting audiences to engage with their cultural history while envisioning future possibilities for intercultural dialogue. Displaying the beauty of Dehua porcelain is not merely a showcase of art; it is a call to recognize the shared humanity in diverse forms of expression. This event marks a hopeful step towards fostering deeper connections between China and the U.S.

The Dehua white porcelain exhibition will remain open to the public, allowing thousands more to explore the captured essence of Chinese artistry, deepening appreciation for the intricate craftsmanship and cultural narratives imbued in each piece. As art bridges worlds, visitors are encouraged to immerse themselves in the aesthetic journey that Dehua porcelain offers, celebrating a tradition that spans centuries and inspires future generations.
