Marktec Corporation at TEAM EXPO 2025
On May 30th, Marktec Corporation, along with partners including ReTech Renewable Energy Solutions, KDDI Corporation, Emulsion Flow Technologies, and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, announced their participation in the TEAM EXPO 2025 initiative. This exciting project aims to establish effective recycling and sustainable practices for lithium-ion batteries, which are becoming increasingly prevalent due to the growing use of portable batteries in various sectors, including automotive EVs.
About TEAM EXPO 2025
TEAM EXPO 2025 is a participatory program designed to engage diverse teams in activities that contribute to the upcoming Osaka-Kansai Expo and the future. From August 15 to 17, 2025, the five companies will exhibit their innovative solutions for safely collecting and transporting used lithium-ion batteries at the TEAM EXPO pavilion. This exhibition includes showcasing prototypes for transportation cases and technologies related to solvent extraction and resource particle analysis.
On August 15, the partners will also conduct a presentation regarding the project's objectives and progress, providing insights into their collaborative efforts for sustainable recycling.
The Importance of Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling
As the market for portable batteries, smartphones, IoT smart appliances, and drones continues to grow, the demand for lithium-ion batteries is expected to surge. However, the disposal of these batteries poses significant risks if not handled properly. Deterioration from extended use may lead to issues such as damage, deformation, or even fires. Additionally, lithium-ion batteries contain rare metals that are becoming increasingly scarce, making their recycling paramount for environmental sustainability.
To combat these challenges, the five companies will focus on establishing a comprehensive framework that includes effective battery handling awareness, the adequate transportation of collected batteries, precise processing to extract and generate high-purity black mass, and the extraction and composition analysis of rare metals. Through these efforts, they aim to promote the utilization of recycled materials and contribute to a circular economy.
Roles of Participating Companies:
- - KDDI: Focuses on the collection of batteries from smartphones and drones.
- - ReTech RES: Handles the analysis for re-resourcing cells and the extraction of high-purity black mass.
- - EFT: Specializes in separating rare metals from black mass through solvent extraction.
- - Marktec: Conducts material composition analysis and inspections.
- - Mitsui O.S.K. Lines: Responsible for transporting batteries and recycled materials.
