Tripti Sinha Reappointed as Chair of ICANN Board
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has announced significant changes to its Board of Directors, highlighted by the reappointment of Tripti Sinha as Chair and the appointment of Sajid Rahman as Vice Chair. This announcement was made at the ICANN84 Annual General Meeting held in Dublin, Ireland, from October 25 to 30, 2025.
Sinha's Continued Leadership
Tripti Sinha has served on the ICANN Board since 2018 and now begins her fourth term as Chair. With over 30 years of experience in internet infrastructure and global coordination, she is well-equipped for this role. Currently, she holds the position of President and CEO of Internet2, a prominent nonprofit organization specializing in advanced technology. Sinha's previous role as the Assistant Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at the University of Maryland further showcases her deep expertise in advanced cyber infrastructure and internet global services.
In her statement, Sinha expressed her pride in leading a diverse and talented Board. "This year marks an important moment for ICANN as we implement the next Strategic Plan and strengthen our role in a changing Internet governance landscape," she remarked. Sinha emphasized the organization’s commitment to ensuring the security and stability of unique internet identifier systems and advancing new generic top-level domains. Furthermore, she highlighted the focus on enhancing collaboration across the global community.
Sajid Rahman Takes on Vice Chair Role
Joining Sinha in leadership is Sajid Rahman, who became a member of the ICANN Board in 2022. Currently serving as Chair of the Board Finance Committee, Rahman is not new to governance and technology. He brings a wealth of experience from his previous position as Managing Director at Standard Chartered Bank and as the Group CEO of Telenor Health, where he built a global digital health care business.
"ICANN's Board reflects the diversity and collaboration that defines the global Internet community," Rahman said. He is enthusiastic about advancing ICANN's mission while navigating significant technological and societal changes, emphasizing engagement across all regions.
New Members Join the Board
In addition to Sinha and Rahman, ICANN welcomes three new Board members: Constance Bommelaer de Leusse and Raúl Echeberría, selected by the ICANN Nominating Committee, and Greg DiBiase, chosen by the Generic Names Supporting Organization. The addition of these members will bolster the Board’s capabilities and enhance ICANN's mission of securing a stable and interoperable global Internet.
The ICANN Board of Directors comprises 20 members, including 16 voting members and four nonvoting liaison representatives, showcasing a range of geographical and professional expertise critical for effective internet governance. Each Chair and Vice Chair serves a one-year term, while voting members have three-year terms.
ICANN's Ongoing Mission
Established in 1998, ICANN aims to ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. The organization's core function revolves around maintaining unique identifiers that allow different computer systems to communicate effectively with one another. Sinha and Rahman's leadership is critical as ICANN navigates the challenges presented by a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
