Prominent Yokohama Shopping Center Integrates 4MW Renewable Energy Systems

Introduction

In a significant leap towards sustainability, the upcoming large-scale shopping complex, Yumegaoka Soratos, will implement approximately 4MW of renewable energy systems. This comprehensive effort includes on-site solar power generation complemented by energy storage solutions. Managed by Intellect Inc., the project promises to be a beacon of renewable energy integration in Yokohama, Kanagawa.

Energy Solutions Overview

Set to open in July 2024, Yumegaoka Soratos aims to utilize a self-consumption solar power generation system and a battery storage solution capable of addressing energy needs effectively. The facility will benefit not only from energy produced on-site but also from two off-site solar power plants located in Gunma and Chiba. These plants, part of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), are estimated to be operational by March 2026, adding to the facility’s renewable energy arsenal.

The installed on-site solar power generation system boasts a capacity of 1,678.6 kW (DC), complemented by a battery capacity of 150.0 kWh. The projected annual energy generation is around 1,754,198 kWh, which can facilitate a substantial 791.1 t-CO₂ reduction in emissions each year. When combined with the two off-site facilities—adding up to 2,283.3 kW (DC)—the total renewable energy generation capacity reaches a remarkable 4MW, projecting an annual carbon reduction of about 1,782.3 t-CO₂.

Comprehensive Energy Management

These integrated systems allow Yumegaoka Soratos to manage energy comprehensively across its rooftops and multiple locations. This innovative approach not only expands the use of renewable energy but also establishes a resilient energy strategy that contributes to Business Continuity Planning (BCP) during emergencies.

Partnership with Local and National Initiatives

The ambitious project is supported by Yokohama City's Decarbonization Transition and Renewable Energy Promotion Subsidy and the Ministry of the Environment’s Consumer-led Solar Power and Battery Integration Support program. This reflects a broader commitment to promoting renewable energy models led by consumer demands.
