TM Forum Unveils High-Reliability AN Solution Package for Core Networks

In a significant development for the telecommunications sector, TM Forum has launched a new package of solutions focused on Autonomous Networks (AN) designed to ensure high reliability for core networks. This announcement was made during the recent Masterclass at Innovate Asia Autonomous Networks, attended by Michael Wang, a specialist in core network solutions from Huawei.

The new AN Solution Package is centered around seven critical dimensions necessary for ensuring the stability and reliability of core networks. It provides a comprehensive implementation framework that includes disaster recovery mechanisms for both control and user planes, infrastructure support, signaling overload resistance, risk prediction, and service degradation recovery. This multi-faceted approach is built upon the Management Data Analytics Function (MDAF) defined in the 3GPP TS 28.104 standards, creating a systematic and resilient network management environment.

Key Innovations in Network Management

One of the standout features of this solution package is its innovative approach to managing risk associated with signaling storms. By incorporating digital twin technology, the solution creates a virtualized network environment, allowing for proactive risk assessment and action. Prior to the occurrence of signaling storms, the system collects data on traffic statistics, node connections, and device timing configurations. A simulation engine then generates impact models, thereby enabling precise evaluations of network capacity and generating optimization recommendations. This allows operators to anticipate potential failures and take preventive measures before issues arise.

Standardization and Industry Integration

The AN Solution Package adheres strictly to the TM Forum’s IG1500 standards, allowing for seamless integration with existing systems through standardized APIs. This is a crucial aspect highlighted by Michael Wang during his presentation, where he emphasized that the solution provides a standardized technical deployment template. Furthermore, its viability has been demonstrated in practical scenarios through the Catalyst project, showcasing the stability of core networks.

A key focus area mentioned was infrastructure disaster recovery optimization practiced by operators. This includes rapid VIP user identification, quick assessments of recoverable routes, and swift generation of recovery solutions. With a targeted approach aimed at reducing recovery time from 30 minutes to just 1 minute for VIP users—while maintaining a 30-minute recovery time for regular users—the solution effectively elevates the network experience for high-value users and mitigates potential economic losses resulting from service disruptions.

A New Era for Core Network Stability

With the announcement of this AN Solution Package, TM Forum officially incorporates the assurance of core network stability into its standard scenarios. Huawei's replicable and scalable paradigm for constructing high-stability networks essentially equips operators with powerful tools to enhance their resilience. This progressive step not only paves the way for improved network management practices but also supports monetization through robust network evaluations.

As the telecommunications industry continues to evolve, innovations like the TM Forum's new AN Solution Package stand to play a vital role in fostering enhanced service reliability and operational efficiency.

This comprehensive approach to network stability ensures that operators are better equipped to handle the demands of modern telecommunications while simultaneously providing substantial benefits to their user base, especially in moments of unforeseen technical challenges.
