Application Process Opens for International Infrastructure Engineer Certification and Awards for 2026
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) has officially launched the application process for the International Infrastructure Engineer Certification and Awards for the fiscal year 2026. This program aims to enhance a working environment that allows engineers to excel both domestically and internationally, promoting mutual utilization of their skills worldwide.
Overview of the Program
Beginning today, interested candidates can submit their applications for both the certification and awards, as well as register their domestic utilization records. Detailed application requirements and deadlines can be found on the MLIT website. The program focuses on recognizing exceptional engineers based on their contributions to international construction projects.
1. Who Can Apply?
The certification application and award submissions can be made by organizations that are either managed by the MLIT or possess independent competition eligibility regulated by agencies under MLIT. This includes public corporations engaged in construction or surveying activities, like the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency, or any other affiliated body.
2. Application Criteria for Certification
Eligible applicants must be engineers who have been involved in overseas construction projects conducted outside Japan. This includes roles in surveys, detailed design, project management, master planning, and technical cooperation for international construction-related endeavors. Engineers must satisfy specific requirements related to their company’s involvement in these projects.
3. Who is Eligible for Awards?
The awards can be claimed by engineers who have previously received certification or are applying simultaneously for certification along with their award submission. Specifically, this includes lead engineers, onsite managers, or candidates holding equivalent roles in domestic projects or operations. Following a review by the committee, award winners will be announced in January, with a ceremony planned for February.
4. Registration of Domestic Utilization
To monitor the effectiveness of this program and inform future improvements, engineers certified or recognized through the awards are encouraged to register their participation in domestic projects commissioned by local institutions. This includes projects where they may not have secured contracts.
5. Submission Deadline
The deadline for submitting applications and supporting documents is September 5, 2026, at 5 PM JST. Submissions must be made through the online system provided by the MLIT.
For those interested in reading more details, please refer to the official announcement on the MLIT website. Engaging in this program not only honors individual achievements but also promotes the advancement of engineering standards for Japan on a global platform.
