Augustus Secures $180 Million in Series B Funding to Accelerate Dollar Access for Global Financial Institutions

Augustus Secures $180 Million in Series B Funding

Augustus, a pioneer in developing a Global Dollar Bank, has proudly announced the completion of a $180 million Series B funding round at a valuation of $1 billion. This significant financing was spearheaded by Tiger Global and saw contributions from several high-profile investors, including leading figures from the fintech space such as Hummingbird, QED, and the founders of Nubank, Ramp, Circle, and Deel. This new influx of capital underscores Augustus's commitment to revolutionizing access to U.S. dollar accounts and services globally.

With this financial boost, Augustus aims to expand its offerings to international fintech firms and banking institutions in diverse regions including Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The company’s innovative API-first platform facilitates seamless transactions for customers through various channels, such as Swift, ACH, SEPA, and stablecoins. This positions Augustus uniquely in a rapidly evolving financial landscape.

Central to Augustus’s strategy is its proprietary core banking platform, named Marble. This system is designed to enhance operational efficiency by reducing settlement times and ensuring 24/7 availability, utilizing AI technology to streamline backend processes.

In May, the company received conditional approval for a U.S. national bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), placing Augustus among a rare group of fintech companies authorized to build federally regulated banking infrastructure. This charter enables Augustus to offer direct access to U.S. dollars, minimising reliance on intermediary banks, which can often slow down transactions.

Ferdinand Dabitz, CEO and Co-Founder of Augustus, emphasized the significance of this funding, stating, "The Dollar is the greatest product in the world, but its distribution is fundamentally broken. This financing allows us to execute on our mission to provide high-quality dollar access to international fintechs and banks. It's time to dollarize the world."

Further elaborating on the need for innovation, Greg Quarles, President of Augustus, commented on the importance of starting anew rather than patching legacy systems. He highlighted Augustus as a melding of modern technology with the capabilities of a federally chartered bank, distinguishing it within the industry.

The relevance of Augustus's work becomes even more apparent against the backdrop of shifting global financial dynamics. With initiatives like China's Digital Yuan and Russia's potential BRICS Pay system, Augustus aspires to offer a robust Western alternative to maintain and promote the dominance of the U.S. Dollar and Euro as global currencies in the foreseeable future.

This latest funding round also drew support from an array of fintech and AI industry leaders, solidifying Augustus’s position as a formidable player in the financial technology sector. The company has assembled a team of seasoned professionals with extensive backgrounds in banking, regulations, and payment systems, including Greg Quarles, a former bank CEO and senior regulator, and Benjamin Alexander, the former Chief Compliance Officer at Column.

In conclusion, as Augustus embarks on this new chapter supported by significant funding, the focus remains clear: to enhance dollar accessibility for global financial institutions and support the ongoing evolution of the fintech landscape. With innovative strategies and strong leadership backing, Augustus is well-positioned to make a lasting impact on the world’s financial infrastructure.
