Interactive Science Course at the Hero Academy
In a remarkable collaboration between Kato Works, the city of Soka, and Tokyo Denki University, an engaging hands-on learning program titled "Hero Academy Special Edition - Science" is set to take place on July 4, 2026, at the Tokyo Denki University in Senju. This initiative is aimed at elementary and middle school students from Soka, offering them an invaluable experience that goes beyond the conventional classroom environment.
The Purpose of the Hero Academy
The Hero Academy aims to provide students from grades 5 to 8 with unique experiential learning opportunities that are often absent in standard educational settings. By connecting schools, universities, and industries, the program seeks to spark interest in science and the wonders of manufacturing among young minds. Notably, the event location is conveniently accessible via private rail lines from nearby stations such as Kitasenju and Soka, reinforcing the community's commitment to educational collaboration.
Through a series of three workshops, the program will cultivate a future-oriented mindset in children, serving as a platform to consider Soka City’s future while enhancing their understanding of science and technology.
Planned additional sessions will occur on July 22 at the New Soka Fire Station and August 25 at Kato Works’ Ibaraki factory, expanding the learning experience.
Course Details
The first session kicks off with a presentation by Kato Works employees, showcasing the mechanics of cranes and hydraulic shovels, specifically delving into the roles of electric power and hydraulics. Participants will then engage with faculty from Tokyo Denki University, who will provide insights into the fundamentals of electricity, enriching their understanding of how it powers movement and machinery.
Following these foundational lectures, students will roll up their sleeves to build electric model cars. This hands-on activity will allow them to experience the joy of creation while solidifying their grasp of scientific principles and engineering concepts.
