Join Us for the Moving Donation Campaign to Support a Smile

Spring is here, marking the season of moving for many. As you prepare to relocate, it's a common dilemma:
"This clothing is still usable, but my new closet is too small. What should I do?"
"I love these books and CDs, but I can’t bring them all. Do I just throw them away?"
"These collectible figurines are dear to me, but I can’t take them to my new home."
It’s not uncommon for people to face these questions when packing up their belongings. However, what if the unwanted items from your move could create smiles and turn into a way to contribute to society?
From March 3 to April 30, 2026, the Share NGO Council will hold the "Moving x Donation! Home Decluttering Campaign". This initiative encourages participants to donate items, such as clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry, books, CDs, DVDs, games, and toys, rather than disposing of them.
Instead of contributing cash, you can participate by donating items directly from your home, making a tangible difference in someone else’s life.

How to Participate

  • - Fashion Items: For donations of clothing, shoes, and bags, send them to Brand Pledge.
  • - Miscellaneous Items: For items like books, CDs, DVDs, games, and toys, send them to Book Off "Kimochi to.".

Background of the Campaign

During the spring moving season, many find themselves letting go of items that still have life in them, leading to significant waste. Did you know that these unused items could hold more value than you think?
According to research by Mercari General Research Institute, families that moved recently disposed of usable items worth an estimated average of about 155,000 yen (approximately $1,500) per household, correlating to nearly 80% of the average moving costs.
On the flip side, Japan's reuse market continues to expand; it has grown for 15 consecutive years, reaching a market size of 3.3 trillion yen (approximately $30 billion), with the fashion sector alone surpassing 1 trillion yen (approximately $9 billion) for the first time.
The Ministry of the Environment is promoting the importance of reuse as society trends towards a more circular economy. The focus is shifting from 'discarding' to 'donating', aiming to reduce waste and support community health.

Campaign Goals

Share aims to host 50 campaign participants within this brief two-month campaign period. This initiative has gained traction in recent years due to the rise in reuse awareness, reflecting in increased donations to Share, particularly in clothing and books.
We are excited to see more individuals choosing to donate rather than throw away.

What Can a Donation Worth 10,000 Yen Achieve?

  • - In Cambodia: This amount can provide the ingredients for three nutrition education classes focused on baby food, serving undernourished children in areas where 26% of the youth suffer from chronic malnutrition.
  • - In East Timor: It can fund training for two health department staff members, improving vaccination service delivery and combatting preventable diseases that threaten children’s health.
  • - In Japan: It allows for the recruitment of a medical interpreter who can assist foreign mothers and children in receiving essential health services, breaking down language barriers that prevent access to care.

Ways to Donate

Depending on the item type, each has a designated collection point. For fashion items, use Brand Pledge’s service, and for books or similar products, you can opt for Book Off "Kimochi to." These platforms ensure that the proceeds from your donations support various organizations and causes in need.
We encourage you to join us in this meaningful campaign. Your unused items can light up lives and contribute to building a healthier world through simple acts of kindness. Every contribution counts, turning your clutter into hope for others. Contact Brand Pledge for clothing donations at 0120-155-081 and Book Off for other items at 03-6701-4604 for questions regarding packaging and shipping.
