Enhancing Cooperation in Subnautica 2: Update Vlog 1.2
KRAFTON has just unveiled the second significant update for the early access underwater adventure game,
Subnautica 2, developed by
Unknown Worlds. Released on
August 20, this update emphasizes enhancing cooperative gameplay, allowing players to better communicate and work together during their underwater explorations. In tandem with this release, Unknown Worlds has also pledged
$100,000 to the nonprofit organization
The Ocean Cleanup, advancing their commitment to ocean conservation.
Key Features of Update 1.2
Proximity Voice Chat
At the center of this update is the introduction of
proximity voice chat. This feature allows players to hear each other’s voices based on their distance within the game. When players are close, their voices sound clearer and louder, while those farther away become quieter. This innovative system adds a layer of immersion to underwater communication, significantly enhancing the cooperative exploration experience.
Revamped Revive System
The latest update includes a new revive system that keeps players in a 'downed' state instead of instantly dying when their health runs out. This new mechanic encourages teammates to revive each other within a time limit, bringing a fresh sense of urgency and teamwork to underwater survival.
Improvements in Communication and Co-op Gameplay
In addition to these features, KRAFTON has made several enhancements to communicate and collaborate more efficiently. New emotive actions allow players to convey messages without using voice chat. Players can now directly access teammates’ inventories to exchange resources smoothly. Other improvements include throwable location marker tags and a signaling system, all contributing to a better collaborative environment.

Supporting Ocean Conservation
The Ocean Cleanup is a nonprofit organization focused on developing technologies to eliminate plastic pollution from the world’s oceans. Since the initial release of the first Subnautica game, Unknown Worlds has contributed a portion of its sales to support ocean conservation efforts, emphasizing its commitment to environmental responsibility.
Fernando Melo, Executive Producer at Unknown Worlds, stated, “Subnautica was born from our love of the ocean. It is significant for us to continue our conservation efforts, exemplified by our recent donation to The Ocean Cleanup. We are dedicated to protecting the seas we have spent years depicting in our games.”
