On September 15, 2026, Hanwha Power proudly announced that it has received Approval in Principle (AiP) from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for the preliminary design of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering vessel with a capacity of 22,000 cubic meters. This significant achievement was celebrated at the GASTECH 2026 event held in Bangkok, Thailand, where Hanwha Power showcased its commitment to innovative energy solutions alongside its subsidiaries Hanwha Ocean and Hanwha Engines.

The event marked Hanwha Power's strong presence in the maritime and energy sectors, highlighting an integrated approach to meet the growing demand for sustainable marine technologies. During the exhibition, the company presented a comprehensive range of solutions reflecting its dedication to transitioning towards environmentally-friendly vessels and advanced propulsion systems.

Hoon-min Kim, Director of the Marine Solution division at Hanwha Power, and Jong-kyu Hwang, Vice President of Technical Solutions, were key speakers during the certificate handover ceremony, which included representatives from ABS. This AiP allows Hanwha Power to expand its fleet of medium to large-sized LNG bunkering vessels, bringing a new paradigm in fuel delivery capabilities from 7,500 to 22,000 cubic meters.

One of the standout features of this new vessel design is its dual capability to transport both LNG and ammonia, the latter being recognized as a promising clean fuel of the future. The incorporation of high-manganese steel cargo containment technology (Mc-C®) allows for adaptability to future alternative fuels, ensuring operational flexibility and long-term competitiveness for shipowners.

As LNG bunkering vessels typically operate in coastal regions, Hanwha Power is addressing environmental concerns by implementing a hybrid electric propulsion system. This innovative design integrates Onshore Power Supply (OPS) with an energy storage system (ESS), significantly minimizing harmful emissions during docking and operations in port areas, while simultaneously improving operational efficiency and economic performance.

Beyond this specific vessel project, Hanwha Power is also integrating the group's leading technologies, including dual-fuel generators, energy storage systems, and integrated automation systems for freight handling.
