OSCP Enhances ArduPilot Compatibility for MK2 Series
OSCP, or OSCPS Motion Sensing Inc., today revealed a significant upgrade for drone developers. The company now provides support for ArduPilot across its entire MK2 range of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs). This exciting development is now available for users to download from
docs.oscp.com, which includes integration documentation, a C SDK, and Python examples.
This enhancement is particularly beneficial for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In situations where satellite signals are lost, the aircraft can continue to operate thanks to a reliable fallback mechanism. As GNSS jamming and interference issues extend beyond designated conflict zones, ensuring stability during operations beyond visual line of sight becomes crucial. The quality of the gyroscope is vital in maintaining position accuracy in such scenarios.
The new ArduPilot driver enables the connection of any device within the MK2 family to the ArduPilot system through standard RS-422 or CAN-FD interfaces. Developers can begin their projects using the MK2M2, a MEMS module measuring 40 x 40 x 25 millimeters, which weighs just 75 grams and operates on 1.2 watts, before progressing to the MK2E2 with photonic technology that delivers tactical-level performance using the same interfaces and driver.
Photonic technology proves to be an excellent choice in aviation cells, as it withstands vibrations that often affect MEMS gyroscopes. As MEMS are sensitive to acceleration, they accumulate additional drift errors during extended periods of vibration and acceleration, while OSCP's photonic detection maintains its polarization stability under these conditions.

In practical tests where satellite positioning was unavailable, OSCP's photonic IMU completed a 21-minute road test with an impressive final position that was just 5.7 meters from the true ground truth, compared to 20.5 meters off for a MEMS unit under the same conditions.
Designed and manufactured in Montreal, OSCP’s sensors are not subjected to ITAR regulations, making them accessible to a broader range of customers.
