The 20th 24-Hour Green Charity Relay Marathon Returns!
On June 21-22, 2025, the much-anticipated 20th edition of the
24-Hour Green Charity Relay Marathon was held, along with the
Running Park sub-event of the Shonan International Marathon. This event marked the marathon's return after a six-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
What is a Relay Marathon?
A relay marathon is a running event where teams of participants take turns running over a defined period. Teams can decide their order, number of laps, and when to exchange runners. The essence of the event is camaraderie; it brings people together to support and encourage one another while aiming for the finish line. This makes it accessible for those who may not excel in running but enjoy the spirit of teamwork and community.

A Special 24-Hours of Emotion
The atmosphere over the two days was filled with energy and excitement, with traditional relay races (24-hour, 12-hour, 6-hour, and 4-hour) alongside individual runs and the unique nighttime running activities. Participants tackled the
10-Hour Night Run, full marathons, half-marathons, and 10km races, reaching their personal goals amid encouragement and social interactions.
The event also featured
Kids' Runs and
Family Runs, allowing people of all ages to partake in the fun. The smiles and joy shared among runners and supporters created lasting memories.
Every Step Supports the Environment
The marathon collected a total charity amount of
67,984 yen, which will help support green initiatives. Participants contributed through an optional donation (participation fee + 300 yen), leading to a
total donation of 46,200 yen. This money directly supports organizations focusing on environmental protection and afforestation.
Additionally, the marathon's unique initiative converted total laps run into charity donations. With
21,784 laps completed, a further
21,784 yen was donated to the Tokyo Park Association. The total charity raised illustrates the power of collective efforts toward environmental sustainability.
Nighttime Motivation with Influential Runners
One of the highlights was the
10-Hour Night Run, featuring popular running influencer
Myako, an ultra-runner, who joined participants for a late-night running session from 8 PM to 6 AM. Her encouragement resonated throughout the night, motivating runners as she cheered them on. Myako completed
83.5km, fortifying the atmosphere with her presence and spirit.
Personal Runs Enhanced by Pace Support
Simultaneously held was the
Running Park, which included categories for a
full marathon,
half marathon, and
10km race, all designed for various experience levels. Each race had pace setters to help runners maintain their target speeds, providing them with needed support. Numerous participants reported achieving personal bests, thanks in large part to these guides.
Family Joy with Kids’ and Family Runs
One of the most touching moments came from the
Family & Kids Run, where children ran 1.3km holding hands with their parents, crossing the finish line with bright smiles. This experience not only fostered a sense of achievement but also provided unforgettable moments for future generations of runners.
A Unified Celebration with Diverse Stage Events
During the event, the festival atmosphere was further enriched by outdoor stage performances, which entertained both spectators and runners alike. The schedule featured live music, running workshops, and even traditional
Bon Odori (a Japanese folk dance), creating opportunities for everyone to join in celebration and joy.
Delicious Support for Runners
Long-distance running demands nutritional support, which was amply provided. Freshly made pasta, cold desserts, and healthy snacks kept runners fueled throughout the entire marathon. The emphasis on well-rounded nutrition transformed the food service into a beloved feature of the event, ensuring runners stayed energized.
