iotaMotion Launches Robotic Cochlear Implant Technology in Switzerland for Clinical Trial

iotaMotion Implements Innovative Robotic Cochlear Implant Technology in Switzerland

In a groundbreaking move, iotaMotion, Inc., a leader in robotic systems for cochlear implant surgery, has announced its first deployment of the iotaSOFT® Insertion System outside the United States. This significant milestone took place at the University Hospital Zurich and is part of a clinical trial led by Professor Alexander Huber, focusing on the pre-market application of this advanced technology.

The clinical study, titled “Analysis of electrocochleographic signals during speed-controlled cochlear implant electrode array insertion in a non-randomized controlled trial,” represents a pivotal moment for both iotaMotion and the broader cochlear implant market. The iotaSOFT system has already seen more than 750 uses in the U.S., providing unparalleled control over the electrode array insertion and optimizing the intracochlear recordings through real-time electrocochleography (ECochG).

Professor Huber emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “Bringing this new robotic cochlear implantation technology to the University of Zurich has been extremely important for our team. It enables us to advance cochlear implant care and explore techniques that have never been clinically applied before this study.”

The clinical trial seeks to utilize robotic control of the electrode array insertion to analyze the relationship between the dynamics of electrode insertion and cochlear function, as measured by ECochG signals. This innovative approach could pave the way for future advances in cochlear implant programming and strategies aimed at preserving hearing.

“This marks a significant milestone for iotaMotion as we expand our technology outside the United States,” said Mike Lobinsky, President, and CEO of iotaMotion. “The team in Zurich is an excellent partner, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration.”

The iotaSOFT Insertion System is currently undergoing clinical evaluation and is expected to be available on the market from 2026 onwards.
