Empowering Okinawa's Construction Industry with AI Skills
The much-anticipated practical AI seminar for construction engineers is finally coming to Okinawa! Scheduled for
June 11-12, 2026, this event has received remarkable feedback from participants, emphasizing its practical applications in the field. Okinawa’s construction workforce faces an alarming challenge as the average age of skilled workers has soared to
56, the highest in the nation. With over
50% of businesses identifying the recruitment and training of young labor as their primary management issue, the introduction of AI skills is no longer a mere option; it's essential for survival in a rapidly evolving industry. Grants for human resource development, covering up to
75% of costs, will be available, with fiscal year
2026 likely marking the last chance for such assistance. Therefore, enrolling this fiscal year is strongly encouraged.
This seminar is co-hosted by notable organizations:
CIVIL CREATE,
Japan Multimedia Equipment,
okicom, and the
GAIS (General Association for Promotion of AI Utilization). Together with okicom’s ongoing initiative of promoting digital transformation (DX) in the local construction industry, the event offers a focused learning environment tailored to regional needs.
Why AI Skills Are Vital for Okinawa’s Construction Industry Now
Okinawa’s construction workforce is notably aging, with a staggering average age of
56 years among skilled laborers. Businesses across the region have recognized the pressing need for young labor retention and development as a crucial management challenge. The introduction of limits on overtime labor regulations in April
2024 signified the end of long hours as a sustainable method for project management, requiring adaptation and innovation. Furthermore, significant projects such as the completion of Shuri Castle’s main hall in fall
2026 and the robust initiation of Japan's national infrastructure resilience plan signal a sustained demand for construction services. To meet these increasing demands with a limited workforce, leveraging AI becomes an indispensable tool.
Expanding Curriculum Focused on Practical Applications
During this seminar, participants will not only learn to create construction plans swiftly using generative AI but will also dive deep into advanced topics such as knowledge management utilizing Google’s
NotebookLM. Additionally, frameworks like Will/Can/Should will be introduced to help design career pathways, significantly enhancing the curriculum beyond mere tool operation. Attendees will gain expertise in redesigning their work processes with AI’s integration over two intensive days.
A Dedicated Team of Instructors Assisting Participants
Attendees will benefit from an expertly crafted program led by three seasoned instructors, each bringing extensive industry experience and AI expertise to the table. The seminar's instructor-to-participant ratio is structured at
1:7, ensuring personalized and comprehensive support tailored to individual roles and proficiency levels.
