Goodwill Industries of Eastern North Carolina Announce Significant Community Grants for 2026
Goodwill Industries of Eastern North Carolina, Inc. (GIENC®) has made headlines recently with its commitment to award substantial financial grants to enhance the services of various community organizations throughout the region. As part of its ongoing Community Empowerment Program launched in 2022, GIENC plans to distribute grants to 24 local nonprofits in 2026. This initiative is a testament to GIENC’s unwavering focus on uplifting and supporting the community they serve.
Among these grants, a notable $1 million was allocated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plains (BGCCP), a funding boost that aims to fulfill essential operational needs. This includes investing in significant resources such as technology and transportation, alongside developing quality programming intended to prepare youth for academic success and future opportunities.
“By the end of the year, GIENC will have awarded over $6 million to nonprofit organizations since the inception of the Community Empowerment Program,” stated Christopher Hash, president and CEO of GIENC. “These funds play a crucial role in sourcing innovative solutions that address the challenges faced by individuals and families in our community.”
The Community Empowerment Program is designed to support a variety of partners, emphasizing a shared mission: to empower individuals, families, and communities through job-related and educational advancements. Organizations such as The Daniel Center, Open Door Food Pantry, Nourish NC, Shield NC, and Baptists on Mission are also among the recipients of these transformative grants.
Mark Holtzman, the BGCCP president and CEO, reflected on the significance of this funding, remarking that, "The investment from GIENC is not only incredibly generous but also fundamentally aligns with our objectives for youth development. With the right resources and support, we can genuinely change the trajectory of a young person’s life."
The collective efforts of GIENC and its partners underscore a collaborative approach to community building, emphasizing how strategic partnerships with local organizations lead to impactful and measurable outcomes. By fostering such collaborations, GIENC not only enhances its capacity but also ensures that the community continues to thrive.
In an operational capacity, GIENC serves a wide area of 51 counties and manages 43 employment program centers, showcasing its commitment to job creation and community support. The proceeds from the retail operations further bolster these community efforts, allowing GIENC to combat food insecurity, offer free workforce development, and provide vital educational resources focusing on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Furthermore, they are actively involved in initiatives aimed at countering human trafficking and supporting veterans.
As part of their ongoing initiatives, GIENC encourages community member contributions through donations and retail purchases. This community-driven funding model allows for a multiplier effect, creating sustainable change across eastern North Carolina.
