Angelaligner Appeals Chinese Court Ruling on Dental Practices
Angelalign Technology Inc., commonly referred to as Angelaligner, has announced its decision to appeal a recent ruling made by a Chinese court concerning the extraction of premolars. The Intermediate People’s Court in Jinan ruled against Angelalign's use of its biomechanical simulation system, masterForce, and its digital diagnostic and design system, ATreat, which are integral to the development of its A7 and A7 Speed dental solutions. Despite the ruling, the company emphasizes that it does not impact client interests or patient care.
Background of the Case
The preliminary decision, which currently holds no effect outside of China, stated that Angelalign must cease using these technologies for its dental extraction solutions. However, Angel's management, including CEO Fox Hu, is confident that the methods employed in their A7 extraction solution do not infringe on any existing patents. They cite a history of successfully contesting numerous patent disputes in various jurisdictions, reinforcing their commitment to fair competition in the orthodontics market.
Fox Hu stated, "The court's decision pertains solely to China and does not affect our customers. We are pleased with the growing interest from orthodontists globally in our professional solutions. We are fully confident in our appeal against our competitor, Align Technology Inc., as we have successfully navigated several similar legal challenges."
The legal proceedings are part of an ongoing series of litigations initiated by Align Technology, which claims that Angelalign has violated their patent rights. Angelalign maintains that these allegations are unfounded. In a similar vein, a local court in Düsseldorf recently dismissed a request from Align to halt Angel's use of the A7 system, a ruling that the claimant did not appeal, rendering it final.
